Once again, Dieselstation Car Of The Year is back!
The rules are pretty much the same as last year. We're going to be voting on various categories...each category will be voted on for ten days until it closes, and then we will take the winner from each category and pit them together for an overall vote. Like last year, we will be splitting up the trucks and SUVs from the cars, so we will have a separate overall Dieselstation Car of the Year and Dieselstation SUV/Truck of the Year. The winners from each category will go into three overall votes and from there we will crown our Dieselstation Vehicles of the Year (Truck, Sports, and non-Sports). To be eligible, a car must be either a new model or significantly updated for the 2008 model year. A few vehicles have been combined with their mechanical "twins" to reduce clutter. To simplify matters, just like in the past, the car of the year competition focuses only on models sold in the United States. There are 71 cars broken down into 15 categories and 27 trucks and SUVs in 6 categories. The categories are as follows: Car of the Year Boy Racers: Level 1 (6) Boy Racers: Level 2 (5) Compacts (5) Convertibles under $50k (4) Convertibles over $50k (4) Coupes under $40k (4) Exotics: Level 1 (6) Exotics: Level 2 (6) Family Sedans (5) Family Vans & Wagons (5) Luxury Cars (4) Performance Coupes (5) Performance Saloons (4) Sport Sedans (4) Superminis (4) Truck of the Year Big-Bad SUVs (4) Compact non-Luxury SUVs (5) Compact Luxury SUVs (4) Luxury SUVs (4) Mid-range SUVs (6) Pick-ups & Vans (4) As each category gets posted for voting, it will be linked from this thread. Like last year, there will be honorable mention polls wherein every car and truck that was close to the winning vehicle will get a chance to redeem itself (close = having received a number of votes equal to or greater than 75% of the winning vehicle in that category). Depending on how the voting pans out, there may be only one of these polls for all eligible vehicles (if there aren’t many close votes) or more than one (if there are). Final results will be posted here. There are a couple of exceptions to the “new for 2008” rule, however. First of all, there are a few 2007 models that were not included in last year’s competition because they were officially introduced after the ’07 competition had been concluded. Those vehicles are: BMW Alpina B7 Hyundai Veracruz Jeep Patriot Kia Rondo Nissan 350Z Nismo Nissan Sentra SE-R Toyota Tundra Also there are a few cars that were included as 2007 models in last year’s competition, only to discover after the fact that they were not officially available until MY2008. Those vehicles are: Dodge Caliber SRT-4 Volvo C30 |

Hey Clarkma, I was just looking through DSCOTY '06 and I was wondering what happened to the most significant category.
