Well, the Ford family was the first car company to target the gay purchasers with ads in gay magazines. First came a Jaguar ad, and not long afterward came Volvo ads like this one [edit: I hadn't looked at the link yet and didn't realize some of this was on the page too]:
 I really don't see what the big deal is. LGBT people account for between 5% and 10% of the nation. They thus account for between 5% and 10% of car buyers. A car company would be dumb to ignore them as a potential market. It would be economic stupidity. Ford deliberately targets heterosexual buyers (say, with the Fusion speed-dating events cosponsored by Match.com). There's nothing wrong with them going after the non-hetero buyers as well. Sorry for the rant, but I just get annoyed with the level of homophobia that is accepted as normal or okay on the internet. |
