Original VWVortex Article

A few highlights:

The clutch steplessly controls the torque from zero to full transmission corresponding to an equal distribution of torque between the front and rear wheels. Depending on the friction coefficient ratio it is even possible to transmit 100 percent of the drive torque to the rear axle.

Anyone say "RWD Golf"? biggrin.gif

Up to a gradient of 8 percent, the new Golf 4 MOTION has a proud towing capacity of 1800 kilograms (3968 lbs.), up to 12 percent the capacity is 1500 kilograms (3307 lbs.) (2.0 TDI: 1600 kilograms/3527 lbs.).

Amazing for such a small car eek.gif

Yeah, it'll probably start at about $18k and run up to the upper 20s/low 30s...well, hopefully they'll bring over the Polo to go under the Golf/Jetta.

No, the 3.2 is a VR6...15-degree, narrow angle, just like the 2.8 it's based off of.

In fact, the 3.2 is basically just a bored and stroked version of the 2.8...84x95.9 (versus 81x90.3 for the 2.8)

This is confusing.. so when they use in in the Audi A3 or TT it's a V6 and when it goes in a VW it becomes a VR6? wtf!

Pretty much, yeah...Audi doesn't use the "VR6" moniker, to seperate themselves from VW, but it's the same engine.

Also the same engine as in the Porsche Cayenne V6, although porsche tuned it a tad for their own purposes.

VW have not sold as many Golf V’s as they thought they would because of its high price compared to the competitors. They even had to put in a free aircondition in Germany, to make it sell!

I totally wouldn't want to tow the weight of another car with such a small car. If you've ever been in a vehicle towing a whole car, you know that even a large truck can be pushed around by the towed car/trailer. It's one of the situations where a really large vehicle is a requirement for safe travel, what big trucks and SUVs should be, but unfortunately mostly aren't used for.

The general rule of thumb is to not tow more than the weight of the car that's towing (unless that's unavoidable, i.e, the thing you're towing weighs more than any possible tow vehicle, in which case trust the rating), and the Golf almost has that...with AWD and such, it probably weighs 3200 pounds or so, so that's enough to tow a 19 foot ski boat or something.

in fact, when it's in the TT and A3 and Phaeton and Touareg it IS a narrow angle VR6. but "VR6" is a VW tag.
