So I think from browsing this forum I have come at a bad time where forums are dieing which is sad because it looks like you guys had some amazing talent that use to come here.
Anyhow, for those who still may be here and are willing to crit I would be more than happy to hear your comments. I am new to photography/automotive photography so each car I shoot is a learning experience. With that said, here are some of the shots that I am more happy with that I would love criticism on. 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() |

wow feet wet or just jumping in the pool - (Just as a word of advice number the photos, easier to talk about them) - That said the Ram shot really captured the essence of the vehicle at the workplace - love it.

Thank you for the kind words Joshua. Yeah just getting into it. Started in the begging of this year.
I do understand the concept of lighting and such though, my daytime job requires me to do catalog work for Ford and such with 3D models so I do virtual photography everyday and have been for several years now. Here are some examples of my cgi work. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Holy crap, that CGI work is epic! Last Mustang shot needs some bg/fg motion, otherwise really well done. Kudos!
How'd you get into the CGI stuff? I've been interested in it, but never figured out how to start off and where to learn. On the photos, you're definitely off to a strong start. The lightpainted ones are good, but sometimes the light streaks are a bit too much. Particularly on the hood of the G37. But I like your treatment on the windows of that car and the 370Z shots. The Ram shot is really nice! The setting really makes it shine. If anything, I'd say the side of the truck looks a bit overlit, and lacks definition. See side of the yellow Mustang above, for contrast. Keep posting! And yes...it's a shame this section has died off. Nice to check in now and then though, and always great when there's quality work like this. Many people have migrated to Facebook groups, but for me it's hard to critique on there since, for one, the photos are so badly degraded, and for two, the posting format is worse than traditional forums like this. Oh well. |

Dave thank you for your feedback.
I agree with your comments, Mustang def would feel better in motion if I had env with slight blur and white truck def hides much of those beautiful bodylines, good things for me to keep in mind for future attempts. As far as getting into CGI work its honestly very simple. Get the software and a 3D model. From then its just a lot of lonely nights practicing. The concept is very close to real life. Light works the same and everything, except you have full freedom to make your light as powerful and as big/small as you would want. Also you can exclude/include objects in light properties so you dont need to make 20 renders and retouch tires in from one and reflections from another haha. I personally use 3D Studio Max as my primary software and a rendering engine addon named Vray. The only tough part will be when getting into it is Material creation. By that I mean carpaint, rubber, chrome, etc. Thats where a lot of trial/error comes in. If you have any questions feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Side note, what are some good facebook groups to follow to automotive photography? I always love to see talented work to be inspired by. |
