F1 2013 - DS Predictions Championship
Below are the rules for this year's competition. If anyone has any suggestions before the first race for any additions/changes, please post them here to be discussed.
Everyone is welcome to join, even if you are not a regular poster on the forums, please feel free to join in.
Also, if you're reading this after the start of the season, please feel free to join at any time, a couple of good results can soon pull you up the rankings.
1. Predictions must be in before the race start time, anything after will not be accepted. No exceptions I'm afraid.
2. You must predict the top 10 finishing positions.
3. You must also predict the driver who will get the fastest lap during the race.
4. Before the first race of the season (Australia) you must predict who you think will be Drivers World Champion and Constructors World Champions. Your first choices will stand until the end of the season. Anyone who does not predict a Driver or Constructor World Champions before the first race, will not be eligible to earn points for these predictions.
5. 10 points will be awarded for predicting the correct Drivers World Champion.
6. 10 points will be awarded for predicting the correct Constructors World Champions.
7. 5 points will be awarded for predicting a driver in the right place or the driver with the fastest lap.
8. 3 points will be awarded for predicting a driver in the wrong place, but within 1 position of your guess.
9. 2 points will be awarded for predicting a driver in the wrong place, but within 2 positions of your guess.
10. 1 point will be awarded for predicting a driver in the wrong place, but within 3 positions of your guess.
11. You will be allowed 1 consecutive carry over if you miss a race, but will score half points for that round.
12. You will be allowed 1 "Joker" play throughout the season. At any race of your choosing, you can play your Joker and this will gain you Double Points for this prediction only.
13. Race disqualifications/altered finishing positions only count in our competition if they happen on the same day as a race i.e. decided by the stewards at the circuit.
14. This will be the thread for all predictions throughout the season. Any predictions posted elsewhere or sent in a PM will not be counted, they must be visible to all players.
15. The scores will be kept in a spreadsheet, which can be requested from me at any time.
Here's to hoping for another season of close racing and predictions. Best of luck.
I think it might just be the two of us.. If you don't wanna run the competition, I'm okay with it. If you still want to run it, I'm okay with that too and will continue to compete.
I'd totally play in terms of how much I follow F1, but I stand by my original notion that I'd rather just watch the races unfold and enjoy them than be mad I'm missing my predictions. Sorry :/
Well lets see if anyone else turns up. I'm not sure how timings work with the US, it's 5am here so with the qualifying delay, not the best start for our competition in terms of getting entries. I did wonder if there were other forums that would attract more players.
Anyway...

Just hashed this together to get points on the board! They're lining up on the grid now!
Shandy are you gonna let us down after rallying Clark?!
What are we saying Clark, I know you're not overly keen on the idea, I've been slack and haven't even done the scores yet. If people are going to join in, I'll carry it on. But could be just 2 of us regularly.
The format of the other competition I'm in, isn't as good as this, which is a shame, much prefer the way we play.
I'll do my best to consistently play if you run it
C'mon, we can get a podium filled can't we?
I'll join in.. I'll try not to be so slack about it.. I haven't even watched a race yet. lol
Ok then here we go. Sorry we've got off to a slow start, let's hope things pick up.
If you want to predict Drivers and World Champions before the next race I'll award 9 points for each (value is less after 2 races).

Being a Mercedes fan I was very happy with the weekend, I'm not as infuriated by the tyre situation as much as some, there's always something to drive to, fuel, engine, etc. tyres is just the current permutation.
I love watching Monaco whatever's going on, it can be processional or completely mad depending on the weather, but it just has that something special that gets me excited about F1.
As much as I wish they're in the clear, I can't help but think Mercedes must have learned something from the tyre test. It's a shame that regardless of what they were told and the way in which they think they can bend the wording of the rules, they thought that everyone would be ok with this. We'll see what happens I guess.
Looking forward to Canada, another of my favourites on the calendar.

I was pretty pissed to see Hamilton's tyre blow and thought that the race would be a bit of a drag from then on with Vettel running away with it. How wrong I was. A lot of people not in the F1 paddock are pointing the finger away from Pirelli and questioning the teams, overstressing the tyres, pressures too low, etc. I don't recall races where Bridgestone or Michelin had 4 blowouts in the same race however. That said it is odd that they were all left rears that went, suggesting there was something at the circuit that didn't work well with Pirelli tyre construction.

I don't think Hamilton should be getting too ahead of himself yet, but there's a few tracks coming up that he's capable of winning, no doubt. Like him or loathe him, if Mercedes can keep the tyres in check, I think he's got the next best package to challenge Vettel (at the moment), so I'd like to see him take the fight to him.

The race didn't quite live up to the qualifying, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as this season it's often been qualifying that's been a little flat. It was a good race...below the top 5. And even in the top 5, gotta say Alonso was impressive.
I agree, Alonso was on form. Most likely challenger to Vettel just because he has the raw determination. He's getting every ounce of performance out of the car at every opportunity.
Mercedes pace baffled me a little - I didn't expect sector 2 to be where they would gain time on Red Bull in qualifying.
Well, Mercedes said pre-race that they setup the car expecting mixed weather, so they compromised for more downforce compared to those running in the dry. It was clear to see that the low downforce Red Bull configuration was totally dry focused and totally focused on not suffering in a straightline. So not too surprising, really.
Ah I missed that. I only saw the last few minutes of qualifying and parts of the race.
I'm away at a festival this weekend, so a good chance for you guys to take advantage!

I think this is a clear case of continuing to put your money on Vettel and RBR until he loses. Maybe I just subconsciously want him to lose.. hehe
Basically yeah. I can see what you did, take the gamble and if it had paid off, you'd have made big gains on us two.
I think you can bank on Vettel for Japan and India at least and probably Abu Dhabi unless someone steps up.

JOKER
Another dominant year for Red Bull and Vettel. All I can say is that I am pleased that every win seems to mean as much to him as the last, he hasn't become complacent.
I played my joker thinking this would be the easiest of the last 4 to predict, but that kinda went out the window. As the WDC and WCC championships were wrapped up this weekend, I've factored in those (few) points too.
Unfortunately skr takes the title for lowest ever score, sorry mate.

Hey Clark, I haven't been ignoring this, I've been away for 3 weeks working on a ship. I don't have the scoresheet with me but I think I've worked this out right and unbelievably it's a draw!! I'd like to get more players involved next year - are you guys members of any other forums that you think would take this up?
Haha awesome! I have a group of friends I watch some of the grand prix with but they always watch quali and the race back to back on sunday so they wouldn't have time to predict, and I doubt they'd join the forum for this...I've told them I do this prediction thing and they don't really seem to care *shrugs*
