![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() QUOTE There are several models of the Esperante: the base model, the GT, the GTLM, the GTS, and the JRD (an aftermarket upgrade brand similar to Roush Mustangs). Additionally, Panoz is more than willing to work with the buyer to make special modifications to any of the stock models. Each model has slightly different statistics. The Specs below are for the base model. The GTLM, for example, uses a supercharger to boost power from 305 hp (227 kW) to 420 hp (310 kW), raising performance from 0-62 mph in 5 seconds to 4 seconds. The GTS on the other hand is built as a driver's class spec car, to SCCA standards, with harness, roll cage, side bars, etc. Additionally, it is ~ 600 lb (270 kg) lighter than the base Esperante, has a steel 5.8 liter V8 racing engine that produces 385 bhp (287 kW; 390 PS), and is made of easily replaceable panels to facilitate small impact race repair. It can do 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds, go up to a top speed of 182 mph (293 km/h), and achieve 0.98 g of lateral grip. Panoz's engines are sourced from The Ford Motor Company's Modular V8 family. I respect Panoz as a company, but I'm sorry, the Esperante is not a cool car, it's way too dorky. Also center mount gauges ftl.

Just the fact that it's a Panoz makes it cool as hell for me. The exterior is a bit awkward kind of like a cross between something from GTA, and an overgrown Miata. However, I don't mind the interior at all. Having spent some time in the Echo, Yaris, and the Nissan X-Trail...I rather like central gauges.

Again, we are crossing the line between good and cool. Pick a date up in an Esperante and you're doing pretty good. Cool car.

I absolutely fucking hate central gauges, especially in a car that's supposed to be sporty. Why move them so far away from the line of sight?

I agree, I hate them too. But gauges don't make a car uncool.

It does however take a 'Meh' car into uncool status for me. If it had regular gauges it would have gotten a neural from me.

We're in need of some tie breaker votes here.

The GTS model redeems this car. If it weren't for that, and the use of Ford's modular V8s (which I'm also a fan of), it would've been meh or MJ uncool.
I used to visit a dealership, that has since gone out of business, that was an authorized Rousch, Saleen, and Panoz dealer. These cars just seem very cheaply built while looking at one up close or sitting in one. Along with the center-mount gauges, this car is meant for driving and I just like to believe that the horrible ergonomics and cheap fit and finish keep the price down. But I don't doubt that they can rip some shit up when pushed hard. I vote cool. |
