![]() ![]() QUOTE The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is an Anglo-German sports car jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive, built in Portsmouth and the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey, England. Daimler AG, owner of Mercedes-Benz, also owns 40% of the McLaren Group. Due to the presence of the automatic gear box, front mid-engined arrangement and its driving characteristics lead some commentators to classify the SLR McLaren as a GT whose rivals can be considered to be e.g. the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish and Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.[1] SLR stands for "Sport, Leicht, Rennsport" (sport, light, racing). Mercedes-Benz has stated that they will build 3500 SLRs in a span of 7 years, with an annual production of only 500 cars.[2] The car's base price is GB£300,000 (approx. US$495,000 or €475,000, c. 2007). Fernando Alonso driving the McLaren SLR around some track. Technical Specifications: Drivetrain: Front Engine / RWD Engine: 5.4L Supercharged V8 Transmission: 5-spd automatic w/ button shifters Weight: 1768kg (3898lb) Official Website: http://www.mclarenautomotive.com/ Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_SLR_McLaren |

QUOTE SLR stands for "Sport, Leicht, Rennsport" (sport, light, racing) Sports cars don't have carpeted boots for you to store your golf bags. fail. 3800 lbs isn't light. fail. on top of all that to call it a racing car but only put 2 pedals in it. fail. uncool. |

I think that F1 cars actually have clutches, they're just not used for anything other than engaging neutral. At least that's how other sequential gearboxes work.

F1 cars aren't automatic. They have clutches but they're hand operated. They're used for moving from a standstill (i.e. pit stops, start of the race) and used when you suddenly spin out and need to keep the car from stalling.
Also, it's the same with WRC cars. They have a clutch but only for starting the car, and launching the car. Afterwards, they're not used anymore beyond that... |

I worded the last bit of my criticism poorly but it seems that you all have understood the point I was trying to make.
