If you stalk me on facebook then you've seen these pictures before and perhaps know what this post will be about.
Anyway the deal is that my current 2-car garage isn't cutting it any longer. ![]() Usually the lawn mower is directly behind the VW with literally inches to spare between it and the garage door. ![]() This was before I bought my welder but it hangs out under the deck between the air compressor and VW. I am limited to the small 80 cubic foot cylinders of argon which are the largest ones that will fit beneath the fancy wood work. I've spent quite a bit of time lately working out the specifics of what I wanted and that's why there haven't been any updates to the VW thread. It will be 24'x36' with 10' walls. 16' and 9' garage doors and a single service door. I think I can get 100 amps of power out to it which is less than what I wanted but due to financial considerations should be sufficient initially. After the tornadoes that ripped up the shingles on my house and beat up the Grand Marquis I was cleaning up in the back yard and found a PVC pipe near my back fence. It ended up being a scrap piece when the house was built I'm guessing because it was not connected to anything. Roughly 50' long that I had to dig out of the yard so the foundation for the garage could go there. ![]() 2-days of manual labor and several shades of skin tone darker I got it. ![]() From further away it doesn't look very significant. Busted fence also visible. ![]() What the exterior will roughly look like. ![]() And planning ahead for a lift. I didn't want it to come close to the rails for the overhead doors. Right now I'm waiting on my brick guy to come out and make sure we can match the house. Then it's off to the permit office and then the festivities begin. |

If they're hosted by Cyclone, you need to change you folder permission.
http://www.cyclonesworld.net/upload/files/...cy7/problem.png Sounds like it'll be an awesome garage though. |

I hammered some stakes in the ground and took some pics but need to upload them. They're really not very exciting but gives me a better idea of how much less backyard I'll need to mow. It is going to be further from the fence than I originally thought, 12 feet vs the 5' I estimated. I was afraid it would start to block the view out of the back windows. I didn't care but my wife did and she said she was fine with it. ![]() I'm currently looking at different floor coatings/coverings. |

The way to deal with contractors: ask for quote, then, ask who, if anyone, they subcontract, and then go to the subcontractor and ask how much less they'll do it for. PROFIT. |

Here's the area staked out.
![]() Yes, my grass needs cut. I sharpened the blades on my mower today and afterward I was too hot and didn't feel like doing it. |

![]() The first load of dirt that got turned away because the gate on my fence isn't wide enough for the truck to fit through. We pulled one of the 6"x6" posts and one 8' section. ![]() While waiting for the next load of dirt to show up the dude worked the skid steer around the back yard. Pretty much cleared the grass out of the way. In this picture they are trying to put one of the tracks back on. ![]() The 2nd load of dirt getting dumped. There will be a total of 9 loads. |

Looks like a pretty button-down neighbourhood . . . how do they geel about you building garagezilla? For some reason I always assumed you lived in the country. There is no home owner's association. And apparently the covenants and restrictions were handed over to the county a couple of years ago according to one of my neighbors. Actually the neighbor that told me that wants to start the home owners association but I'll fight that crap indefinitely. I spoke with the lady that lives next to me who's yard you can see through the busted fence. She said she's got no problem with the thing and it will be casting a shadow on her yard in the afternoon. I even told her it was going to be ginormous. She's a great neighbor. You may have assumed I live in the country because I live in Alabama. I am outside of city limits and you don't need to travel far to get to the farms. Actually there's a cotton field across the street from my neighborhood. |

That's a lot of dirt! Doesn't look like that much of a hole from the photos.
