Ah, the Porsche Boxster. First seen in 1993's Detroit motor show as a concept car, the favorable reaction caused Porsche to get a production version ready for 1997. The original boxster had a 2.5 liter, 201 HP flat-6 connected to a 5-speed manual transmission, and did 0-60 in about 6.7 seconds and had a top speed of 149 mph. For just under $40k when first introduced, the Boxster offered Porsche-like performance for a more reasonable price than any 911 of memory, and was a smash hit.

The '93 Boxster Concept

2000 saw the introduction of the hot S model. Featuring a stiffer suspension and a 250 HP 3.2 liter 6 hooked up to a 6-speed manual, the '00 S would do 0-60 in about 5.9 seconds and continue onto a top speed of 165 MPH. Available for under $50k, the Boxster S took the Boxster's sublime handling and put more motor into it, offering a great in-between step between the standard Boxster and the Carrera.

1997 Boxster 2.5

Although there had been many improvements to the car since 1997, the 2001 model year saw a relatively major set of improvements. The addition of cupholders, some new interior pieces, and a better padded softop helped out all Boxsters, while new gearing and a 2.7 liter engine bowed in the base Boxster. Power was up to 217, and torque was up to 192, while 0-60 times fell by three tenths to 6.4 and the top speed rose by 6 to make an even 155. The new 2.7 liter engine won wide acclaim from the motoring press, many people actually deeming it better than the gutsier S, due to better gearing and exhaust noise with similar-feeling punch.

2000 Boxster S 3.2

2002 was pretty much a carryover year, but 2003 saw a major improvement for the Boxster pair yet again. New front and rear bumpers freshened up the look, while also reducing lift. The interior got yet more detail improvements, while the base Boxster got the '02 S's suspension and the S picked up a fatter rear sway bar. Also, both engines picked up 8 HP apiece (to make 225 and 258 HP, respectively) with some intake and computer work.

2003 Boxster 2.7

I think the Boxster is a cool car (not an ice cold car, though, due to its pretentious "I'm a roadster nature") because of its capable performance and unique heritage. That and it looks and sounds great, too.
I like the Boxster, I like it a lot. However, as cool as I think the car is I cant rate it Ice Cold because most of the people who drive em are complete douches

it's cool but not ice cold because it's pretentious about its' appearance.
Simply cool. Nothing more, nothing less.
Uncool, i see too many of them and for the most part the only reason to get one is because you could not afford the 911 tongue.gif

It looks ok, but anything that costs $40k and can barely beat (or maybe not beat) my car (in a straight line tongue.gif) isn't cool.
