Looking to get my dad a blu-ray player for his birthday. Priorities are good quality DVD upconversion (he's not going to upgrade his entire DVD collection) and ease of use (he's not very good with technology...a PS3 would probably give him a heart attack). Also looking to keep it under $200 and have something that's not a cheap piece of crap. LG seems to own the highest ratings at the lower end of the price range on Newegg, are they worthwhile? Other ideas?

Costco had a Sony blue ray player on sale a while back for <$200. It had wifi built in so you don't have to buy another dongle.

I bought my old man a blue-ray player a couple of years ago for Christmas. It was LG brand but I'm sure it's been discontinued or updated by now. It too had built in Wi-Fi and also does Netflix streaming and youtube which was a plus. It also does some other fancy things. My dad is super nerdy. I think I spent $200 on that and like I said it was a while back. He's since upgraded and moved that to one of his secondary screens.

Moving parts and spinning disks in 2011? lol

Man, Oppo has given up entirely on their budget quality parts business model. Their cheapest Blu-ray player is $500! Now, it is an excellent player with audiophile features and equipment, so if you can snag one up used for a good price then I would most certainly do that.

I got my self a blu ray burner, along with some blank disks, each hold 25ish gigs. And all for under 100 bucks. Can put so much stuff (porn) on one its unreal! Couple it with a PS3=win!
all 5 seasons of the wire on 1 disk, check. 9 seasons of family guy 1 disk, check... technology is fucking unreal!
