Full Version: Just an old Supra

Mr b00st
So my friend just bought this. It's an 86 Supra N/A, targa roof, 5 speed, new paint, in really great shape. Love it. Looks great. But, uh, who cares? Right?

but wait, wtf?

oh, ok. A 1UZ-FE swap you say? With a custom bellhousing adapter to the Supra 5-speed? And 3" straight pipes with no cats, resonators, and a single muffler? alright, that's different.

car has a custom 93 octane tune, puts down 263whp - not TOO much but very smooth, torquey, and it sounds amazing. I'll be getting more footage soon. Oh, also it has an LSD and 4.10 gears in the back! pretty quick!

Wow even without the V8 swap that's one of the nicest MkIII Supras I've ever seen, and then the engine is just tits on top of that.

I really like project cars/engine swaps that focus on being unique and cool instead of just putting down massive power. I'm honestly happier about this ~300 HP Supra than I am about the countless 1000 HP monsters out there.

Couldn't agree more, not to mention you rarely ever see 3rd gen Supras taken care of as well as this one. This is definitely a keeper.

I've always liked this generation of Supra, it's heavy though. The factory engine is less than stellar but that's been taken care of.

Yeah I'm a huge fan, he got a GREAT deal on the car.

He had a pretty well built 1999 Prelude (worked head, tune, full exhaust, 50 shot blah blah) that he was sick of, sold it for $5500 to some chump in SC, bought this for $5k(!!! jelly)

the previous owner actually did the paint and body work BEFORE the engine swap. it had a regular 7M-GE, which is a fine engine except for the hole tiny bore spacing blowing head gaskets crap, and of course it blew the head gasket. Rather than swap in a 1JZ (which is seemingly what most Pooprah owners do) he went with something different. I believe it uses a Hilux bell housing to adapt the 1UZ to the supra 5-speed, which is odd. It's amazing, EVERYTHING on this car works, short of the oil pressure gauge - apparently 1UZ's dont have a hookup for it, just an idiot light, so there's a light. But like, cruise, speedo, tach, a/c, p/s windows everything works. It's super nice inside too.

Future plans for the car are pretty brief, he's going to replace the oil pan gasket (it's leaking) and it's got a shitty wheel bearing, also probably going to ditch the TEMS active suspension which doesn't really do anything for coilovers, add bigger sway bars, and maybe ditch the universal 5-lug panasport knockoffs for real panasports. But I mean, it's already awesome.

That is a really nice car, especially for a swapped car. Nice find for 5k!

Wow, that is a really clean supra and a nice swap. This I am jealous of, congrats to your friend. He should replace the LSD also, those things arent known for their awesomeness (from what I hear).
