Full Version: question about a lense
Dieselstation Car Forums > Multimedia > Photography > Gear & Equipment
I have a canon T1i, with the standard 18-55 lens. I am looking for something for a little bit more zoom and sharper pictures.

Currently, I am looking at this:

I am by no means know what I am doing, just trying to learn...

a bit more zoom? its the same focal length. I have heard a lot of good things about that lens though. I considered it when i had my xsi. But decided to go for lenses that will work with full frame cameras instead.

What do you usually shoot?
just looking for a good all-around lens... someone said that the aperture on it is not big enough, so it has a hard time unless the light is perfect...?
well it all depends on what you shoot...........
you know the usual amateur stuff... cats, dogs, flowers, buildings... etc.

after further research i think sigma 17-70 lens might be a better fit as it is faster...and the reviews seem to be pretty good:

I HIGHLY suggest getting the 50mm f1.8 as your first lens beyond the "kit" lens.
Can you please elaborate? is it the canon one? I am new to this stuff so I do not know what I am talking about most of the time :-)

yes, canon 50mm f1.8.

It has a nice low aperture, is very sharp for the money, and is a great lens to teach framing.
