I got motivated enough to take some quick photos so I can show you the new car. Here she is:

Long story short, I wound up splitting the car with my dad instead of getting something cheaper all for myself. This means I'm driving the Tacoma 50% of the time and the STI the other 50%. It's working out nicely so far. smile.gif We've almost put 1000 miles on it so far--picked it up with 10!

So what is it? 2010 STI Special Edition. What's special about the Special Edition? Not a ton--the wheels and a stiffer suspension setup are the major improvements. It gets some sexy red stitching and some other minor things. The downside is we get a lousier stereo and basic A/C. Not like I really care about those things and it's a bit cheaper than the regular edition!

But anyway, I totally heart.gif it. The grip is amazing, but what's even more amazing is the fact that you can get it to lose that incredible grip with too much throttle! So much fun. biggrin.gif The engine note is intoxicating. The seats are wonderful. And aside from pretty meh gas mileage, it's so practical--I can pack a ton of crap in there! Only trouble so far is that I've never owned a car with nice wheels before and it's freaking me out. Already nicked them twice, despite being super careful all of the time. mad.gif Haha, anyway...

Planned purchases are locking lug nuts, some all-weather mats and another set of wheels/tires. I can't believe it didn't come with nuts. We're puzzled about the exhaust. It seems like it might be upgraded, but there's no mention of it on the sticker. Anyone know an easy way to tell?

Okay I think that's it. Feel free to flame me/ask quesitons. tongue.gif

Lousier stereo could be seen as a bonus since it was probably less expensive right? You can always upgrade down the road. And basic air conditioning as opposed to automatic control? Not a big downer IMO. Our Volvo has the fancy pants dual zone crap but I don't think we've ever adjusted them separately. The black on black isn't my favorite combo but all around I like it. The old '04 plain jane WRX sedan I test drove back in the day still ranks as one of my most fun driving experiences. Assuming this goes above and beyond that woot.gif

I'm rather jealous.

Very nice car.

Congrats on sweet sweet ride!

Nice car, like most people I warmed up to those.
I don't get the whole wheel thing everyone worries about. Don't hit stuff, is that difficult to avoid? I've hit the curb once, maybe twice in my life?

Welcome to the STI club!

Thanks guys! I still haven't gotten used to the fact that it's actually mine (well, half mine anyway). I feel like quite the lucky bastard.

Yeah, msrp was a couple grand less. The better stereo has some more speakers and a 6 disk changer, but the quality of the head unit is supposedly the same. So yeah, an upgrade is in order. It does have iPod compatibility, which is nice (though the interface is extremely basic). The only thing I like about climate control is the ability to set it to a certain temperature and forget about it. But really, I think I can handle the old-fashion way. tongue.gif

It's technically dark gray metallic, but yeah. biggrin.gif Personally, I really like it... it's stealthy. I didn't think I'd buy a car with colored wheels either.

I think it was an '04 that I test drove. It had a slipping clutch, was filthy, and had an obnoxious exhaust, but oh man did I love it. My Dad was riding with me and was like shit we need one of these, except newer and even crazier! woot.gif

Heh, when the new Impreza came out I was in the wtf camp too. The STI treatment improves things a ton. I see the WRXs from time to time and you barely even notice most of them they look so boring.

I dunno, I'm pretty good at parking too. The one time I hit something it was a curb with the metal edge banding that was hanging off. The second time I was parallel parking on a very tightly curved street. I guess it's just tough when you're parking in weird spaces. I guess I shouldn't beat myself up about it it too much, I'll probably do a really serious exterior detailing once a year.

So when are you going stg. 2?

I hit kerbs as often as I humanly can.

Good call on the Special Edition. From what I've read, it's the model to have. Better handling, less bullshit, just the way it should be.

I got chlamydia from an escort. Btw, I got a rebate on her.
