The R8 is the best car that came out this year, no doubt about it, possibly one of the best sports cars ever. But, I voted for the Maserati. No amount of dynamic excellence can attempt to match the jaw-dropping beauty and passion of the Granturismo.

EDIT: I'd like to add an honorable mention for the CLK Black. Proving beyond all doubt that Mercedes can still make a car for the hardcore enthusiast.
LeviM
I voted for the R8 but I think that for the price the viper is the best deal.
redlinehappiness
R8, no contest.
Bjorn
Augh, the Maserati Granturismo is so beautiful that it hurts, but isn't anything special to drive, and the R8 is such a great all rounder, and looks pretty good...what to do?

In the end I know I would be disappointed if I got the Maserati and saw an R8 on the road some day.

Personally I think the Maserati looks like a dustbuster, especially in person...pretty for sure, but I probably prefer the old Gransport and the Quattroporte to it.

I love the Mercedes...in concept. But I still think Mercedes is a couple notches below the competition dynamically.

You know the Lotus is gonna be fun but as buzzy as they are I feel sorta shorted when you spend nearly $70k on one.

The Bentley is impressive but doesn't do much for me.

The Viper is awesome to look at and just so deliciously over the top, but...

Had to be the undeniably pretty and ultra-talented R8.
goota
we all know who is going to win this one...

R8

You sure about that? EVO put it fourth in their COTY...ahead of the M3, behind the R8. The article also said it was a brilliant drive with it's one failing being its gearbox.

I was sorta going more with Jason Plato's Fifth Gear review...which was not quite as glowing. More like "it's a step in the right direction, but Mercedes has a ways to go" sorta thing.

You should have added the new GT-R.

2009 model year.

The Maser front is yucky. R8 for me biggrin.gif First time I saw it, I was sitting on a sidewalk looking at it for about 5 mins.

In that case, I'll go for the Viper. I know the R8 is a better car, but it's too cold, too german. It has no character or soul.

Maybe I'm just too picky...but I feel that a gearbox can make or break a car.

Wow this is an intense poll. The R8 is such a big deal and it's really a sweet machine, but I just don't love it. I'm going for the Exige because it's my perfect recipe of a car and it gets better every year. Under 1 ton, 20/26 mpg, still looks sooo good and will be sooo fast. heart.gif
b0mb3r
R8 just looks awesome.
Asher
I don't think I could live with an R8 knowing that I could have had the Maser.
Frederf
Was going to be the Exige but then I realized how unfun it would be to have a tiny little toy car in the real world. The grandsport has teh style and teh ability to function in the real world.
moe
^ You mean GranTurismo, GranSport is a different Maser.

Sure it has style, but I'd argue it has about the same function in the real world as an Exige! It weighs twice as much, the gas mileage is twice as bad, and it costs almost twice as much. Granted, it's probably more than twice as comfortable, but you definitely look like twice the idiot trying to park in the parking lot of the supermarket. biggrin.gif (I've seen it done...the car draws so much attention and judging by the fat bald dude's performance, it's hard to park.)
Frederf
Yeah I did mean Grand Turismo. I have mucho respect and love for the Exige, I really do but it didn't seem to be such a good "all arounder"
