Full Version: 1998 - 2000 Contour SVT

The 1998 models had 195hp, the 1999+ had 200.
Duratec V6 with an output of 200hp and 169 ft lbs tq and a topspeed of 143mph 0-60 I believe was in the mid to low 7's. Was built on Ford's CDW25 platform which was also used for the Mercury Cougar and even the Jaguar X-Type. In the United States it was called the Contour in other parts of the Globe it was the Mondeo.

In michigan, the only contour svt's I see are terribly modified and driven by the biggest retard/tools in the state.

Added the poll for you, Drew. In Invision 2.2 I think you can add polls to existing threads; if not, then admins definitely can.

Anyway, I think the Contour SVT is cool. Always had a soft spot for them.

100% shitnasty.

It's cool. My physics professor had a sweet 5.0 and then got his wife pregnant with twins and gave it up for one of these. It was decently quick and very subtle.
Tirminyl
I voted Frozen. I love them and they are definitely in my top picks!

Thanks man. I tried for a few minutes to add one with no luck so I gave up. The Cool Wall seemed a little slow. I may think up something else to put up here in a week or so wink.gif.

I like them. I don't like the non-svt versions because it looks more boring without the ground effects. That is why I only am polling the SVT trim. I've seen some ones done up pretty well and I know a guy from the New Edge Cougar driver club who also owns one. His has a pretty sweetly done up 3.0litre that tears up the asphalt even though the purple exterior of his car is in poor shape and the tan leather of the interior is pretty bad shape also.
Cyclone
I've always liked them. I voted cool

It comes with Anti Submarine seats, what is cooler than that? ohdear.gif

It's a Mondeo, seriously uncool.

Yes.

Weren't the Cougar and the X-type based on the next generation of this platform?

I voted cool, probably one of the most underrated sports sedans ever.

What I was saying was, the X-type and Cougar's platform was from the next-gen Mondeo...the Contour was the generation before it.

Looks like a riced out Buick in the first pics. Definitely not cool. The one Tirminyl has is pretty nice looking though.
krazykohla
Does this thing really go 0-60 in stupid-fast stock?

Or is one of my ex-boyfriends slightly insane?
infinity
One of your ex-boyfriends is slightly insane. That is, unless you think 7.9 seconds is "stupid-fast".
krazykohla
I can't find the site that he linked me to that said something like 4's to 60...lemme check my logs. I personally dislike the look of the contour and don't think they're too overly impressive.

195HP 2.5L V6 in a 3000lb 5-speed Ford isn't going get you to 60 in ~5 seconds.

The discussion was about a modified car with an undisclosed amount of power/torque. Although it looks like all of the modifications are listed. Click the link.

Even based on:

I didn't figure it would manage much better than 7 seconds, but I can see with all the stuff listed on that link how it could manage ~5 seconds.

Wow. Small world. I know the owner of the car in your link. He is local here and extremely knowledgeable. Even with the factory 2.5 SVT Duractech I never knew how much power he was putting down or the times he ran. He then swapped for a NA 3L Duratech and with his mods, and tuning he ran a 13.4 at the track. I still don't know how much power he is putting down though.
UserDrew
Mid to Low 7s. I have read 7.2 and 7.9 is what Edmunds had posted.

Is he on CEG?
Tirminyl
^Yes, he is.

Imagine this conversation. You are talking to a hot girl and for some reason or another the fast that you are into cars comes up. Right away she will ask what kind of a car you drive. "Ford Contour SVT" you reply. "... oh, thats cool..." she says.

I have this conversation all the time with my Sentra. It may be a really fun car, but that doesn't change the fact that you still have to tell everyone that you drive a Ford Contour. MJU, unfortunately.
krazykohla
I'm sure the newer Contours are damn impressive, but that pretty much sums it up ^^^

It's nothing near "I drive a Corvette Stingray" or "I drive a WRX STi," but there's nothing wrong with that, right? =p My man drives a '95 Mustang, and damn I love that thing! Even though my car was a tad bit speedier....
Mr b00st
it's a "cool" car mainly for the engine.

What newer contours? These are the last of the Contours, model year wise.

I really wish you'd stop posting such off the cuff things. A little research would do your posts wonders.

Ha! "I drive a Volkswagen Beetle" is a pussy magnet like you wouldn't believe. But women that only like you for your car aren't exactly of the highest caliber.

Notice that I said "newer" not "2007" or "recent".

I really wish you'd stop being a douche just because someone doesn't posess as much car knowledge as you.

kohla, your statement doesn't make any sense to me. You referenced "newer contours" and I have to say...what newer contours? These 1998-2000 Contours are the newest Contours that exist. What can be newer than the newest?

Also, I don't mean to be a douche to you or aggressive or insulting, I was offering a firm but polite reccomendation that your post quality can be improved by doing research and generally being more thoughtful with your posts. If you're going to take such advice as something exceedingly hostile, as you have, then may I suggest that you don't quite understand where I'm coming from. That said, don't think for an instant that you have the right to post whatever you want on these forums; we're a tight knit community and we don't have any reason not to regulate post quality here. Just a heads up.

CSVT > Sentra. Besides, if your game relies on what kind of car you have then...
WardLarson

this one isn't bad.
Tirminyl
Yep, its a Mondeo.
WardLarson
they're the same car.
Tirminyl
Ok. But its a Mondeo.
WardLarson
yes. and it's the same car. meaning whether you've got a contour or mondeo, you can do that to it.
