So, if Jensen doesn't score a single point for the rest of the season, and Rubens scores fewer than 4 points in either Brazil or AD, he cannot challenge for the championship. Furthermore, it doesn't seem likely that JB won't score any points...he was screwed in Japan by Buemi, but came back for an eighth place through driving skill, and a wee bit of luck.
At this point, Vettel is just as much a threat, although Vettel is on his last engines...so he might not be as much of a threat as the points would suggest.
What do you think?
I think JB has it all but wrapped up...

Button will win the title in Brazil if...
He finishes third or better
OR Vettel finishes lower than second and Barrichello finishes lower than fourth
OR he outscores Barrichello by four points
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport...one/8289333.stmIt would totally suck if Button loses...but it reminds me of 2007 with Kimi. Anything is possible, but I think he'll win.

Barrichello now needs 7 points over Jenson in each of the next two races...it was 5 points per race before Suzuka. It was 3.5 points per race before Singapore...it just keeps sliding away from him. Of course all it takes is for Button to crash somewhere to have his rivals pick up a strong podium or win, but that's not the most likely scenario. Nothing's done yet but yeah any betting man would bet on Button I'm sure.

Vettel can pull a Raikkonen and win or Barrichello will have the upper hand at Brazil and Abu Dhabi with Jenson crashing out.
So, no, this championship is anything but finished.

On another note, after JB and RB almost didn't make it out of Q2 thanks to some silly timing and red flags, why would Ross Brawn hold them back so long in Q3. Button seems to always pull out the flier on his second hot lap. Definitely compromised him in qualifying.

I would love to see Button win. He's a good guy and a solid driver.
Vettel would be good too, and he would certainly have earned it.
Baricello is my least favorite to win, if only because I don't like the way he always whines about being denied a fair chance. It would be an awesome way for him to end his career.

I'd be happy to see any of these guys win the title. If Button won it, it would be for his amazing early season form and his ability to stay cool and fight for points when things don't go well, which is damned admirable. If Barrichello won it, it would be reward for him being at the top of his game late in his career and would be a really cool change of pace for him after being clearly #2 to Schumacher for so long. If Vettel won it, it would be for staying in the hunt despite reliability problems and of course for the excitement of coming from behind late in the season. All very worthwhile ways to win a championship.

Amen to that. Though as a longtime Button supporter, I'm definitely aching to see him win his first championship.

I think Jenson has it now. A good result in Brazil should see to that. But this season has thrown up all sorts of surprises! Nothing has been predictable.
I want to see Jenson win it because I've said he's a great driver just needed the right car for a long time and at last he has had the car (all season) so I don't want him to throw it away now. I would like to see him win one of the last 2 races, or at least a podium so he can celebrate properly. I.e Hamilton last year.
Like eveyone else though, Barrichello played second fiddle for so long that I wouldn't be too disappointed if he won it and obviously I would prefer to see one of my Dad's teams' drivers win the title. Vettel is a decent guy and a great driver, so if he wins it from his position now he would most certainly deserve it!

I always steer clear of here, Twitter, Facebook, and any other media until I see the race.
My old DVR setup had a really nasty habit of spoiling races too. If you were watching something as it was recording, the video would skip to the end as the recording stopped. So I would be watching a battle, getting excited, then bam. There is Schumacher's smiling face on the top step of the podium.

I'll have to watch. I grabbed the torrent but after deciding I wouldn't have the time to watch it till this weekend that I might as well spoil it for myself, before I let Autoblog or even the CBC do it for me.

New world champion Jenson Button has emerged as a contender to join Lewis Hamilton in what would be a mouth-watering line-up at McLaren in 2010.
I'm all up for a British affair.

lol, it'd be Senna and Prost all over again. Button/Prost, with the silky smooth no thrills no sliding style and Hamilton/Senna with the emotional win-or-nothing attitude.
Button should stick with Brawn. McLaren is Hamilton's team and I don't see that changing any time soon. If he went there it'd be a move based on money and it'd be an uphill battle internally the whole time.

Razor, you're at least as guilty of escalating this as he is, and I repeat that you're an unapologetic fuckhead. Phix and I have been following this F1 season in every little detail since it started and while we waited for the potentially title-deciding pentultimate round to finish downloading so we could watch and find out for ourselves what happens, you came in and spoiled it. You blew eight month's worth of anticipation for two people who were very excited to discover for themselves what happened, without so much as a spoiler alert or asking if we knew the outcome of the race yet. AND YET you remain defensive.
I know more about phix than any human should have to know, and he's a real person with his own unique ups and downs. I know he spends too much time being personally offended by people who are on his shit list, and you are one of those people, but you could at least do yourself a favor and stop giving him genuine reasons to hate your guts.

Back OT, Button won't got to McLaren, it's just media hype. I don't think an all British team would work, especially not with those too, it would end in disaster, or at least mild peril.
He wants to stay at Brawn and from what I've heard the deal is almost done now.

Mercedes is supposed to be interested in buying a controlling share in Brawn though, and have an Abu Dhabi investment (that happens to own shares in MB) hold on to it for them until their deal with McLaren ends in '11.

I would too, but it appears Hakkinnen is advising McLaren against getting rid of Kovalinen. (Fuck I can't spell any of the Finnish guys' names.)
Dr. Strangelove

The only reason I think McLaren should hold onto Kovalinen is because Hamilton would like a Rubens Barichello (to Schumacher), or a Giancarlo Fisichella (to Alonso) #2.

Which is why I don't think he would leave Brawn, that's all positive. If it's all to be believed why would he move to a team that could have an uncertain future ahead?
