I always thought the Protege was a good looking car...and I have been told that they drive pretty well. My favorite of the bunch was the Protege 5, such a good looking wagon, and it was a contender when I bought the Impreza, which won out due to AWD. I was also rather enamored with the Mazdaspeed Protege...
DrDevil87
Its so fun to drive
the ride is a bit stiff but I dont mind I like it like that!
Its a little gokart. haha

Bjorn.
I would of went with a Suby also given I would of had a little more money to spend
Somthing along the lines of a Legacy or Wrx

Dick...

Shame you didn't get into an ES (or better yet, a Mazdaspeed) but regardless Proteges are really great cars.
maxima302
Those wheels will look excellent too. Do you have disks out back, or dumbs... I mean drums?

Only proteges to get rear discs were ESs and Mazdaspeeds, so he's got drums (as well as 4-lug hubs as opposed to 5 and the softer suspension).
moe
The sad thing is my '05 Mazda3 still has dumbs...sad.gif
Bjorn
I've often wondered why manufacturers still use drums. They are an order of magnitude more complex than discs from what I can see, and I would assume take more time to make and install on the car. I wouldn't be surprised if disc brakes are cheaper for a manufacturer than drums.

Personally, if I were looking at two similar cars, and one had drums I would choose the one with discs every time.

For the budget I had, this was the perfect match.
I payed 3900$ (canadian)

I kept looking at the Mazdaspeeds (because I love them oh so much) OR a mazda 3
But the speeds where goiing for wopping amounts. 14 000$ is the lowest I found.

DRUMS sad.gif
Is it really complicated to switch to disks?
Is it expensive?
clarkma5
Probably pretty complicated, seeing as how it would involve a swap to the 5-lug hubs, which probably means you need to do the front hubs and brakes to match. Also probably not particularly worthwhile on a front wheel drive car that only has tiny rear discs anyway.
DrDevil87
Guess it aint really worth it.
I'll just paint the drums + front calipers the same color.

or something like that
clarkma5
Or you can not bother because it's an economy front wheel drive sedan. It's a good economy front wheel drive sedan, but still. Don't be a douche who paints their brake drums (I HATE that).
MustangAficionado
I really like those bronze wheels. But i dunno if i'd like em on your car. But what do i know, im going from chrome to chrome rolleyes.gif

oh my, exactly the same problem i got into when i chose my impreza....

you guys are right....i need more power now......my next will be an WRX or Ralliart

hm...for the Enkei.....i would get 16" to get you a bit more "air cushion", 205/40, that's like running with almost no air chamber (exaggeration). especially we live in Montreal where pot holes are a huge problem.....Montreal = Pot Holes! smile.gif

make sure the offset is right and doesn't overstrain the bearings.....just my opinion....but ya...i know there is a lot of ppl putting 17"
Benny
want a skull with glowing eyes for a shift knob?

You lost me with that last one...
I'm sorry I dont know much, Guess I'll learn along the way too. My friend who built his own drift car from scratch (with just a frame) is helping me out here.

I dont plan on goiing overboard guys.
Just some mags and a small drop

How bout you get your shift knob out of your ass?

Normally I'd tell people to play nice but honestly, even THINKING of painting your drums is a total 100% douche move and I'm siding with Benny here.

Ahh, stop with the name calling. If he wants to be a ricer, let him. It's not hurting anyone. I'm sure half of dieselstation would think my civic is a ricer, and it's cleanly modified.

kthx

No, I was going to wait until I could get both of the cars out for a shoot, but it's hard to drive two cars at once, when I don't trust anyone to drive my cars. haha

I might make a thread. Depends on how mature I think people are.

I think that's pretty tastefully done, actually.
DrDevil87
Nice little civic you got there dude
Atm : Thx!
DrDevil87
Update

So I'm not sure about the drop-rims-etc anymore.
As much As I love my new little car. And I love driving it, the mags and drop would cost me lots of $.
And that $ I can put it into better lenses or a better camera body, especially that I'm getting a bit more serious about Action Sports photography and Motorsports photography....

Damm
I wish I made more $
lol

I'll see what I do. If I do anything with the car tongue_orig.gif

DrDevil87

Benny

I'd hold out hopefully for a new RX-9 smile.gif If it's based of the Mazda Furai concept car it should be a beauty. It sounds like Mazda's going to try the rotary engine in a couple more cars in their lineup. They've also changed the engine dimensions slightly to get better low end torque out of the rotary engines. That should alleviate some complaints from skeptics and rotary haters.

Well if it's a hydrogen hybrid I may die in a 'fireball' but at least it should be quick and exciting.
