After almost 5 years of loyal work, my mouse, a Logitech MX500, is dieing on me. The left mouse button is not functioning really good anymore, especially dragging stuff is getting hard (and frustrating).

So the logical choice, because I was loving my MX500 so much, is to get (almost) the same, the MX518.

But somehow, I want something different, something new. It's also a bit pricey (45EUR) for essentially a 5 year old mouse.

But I really want a Logitech mouse, so now I'm considering either the MX400 of MX620

Main differences are that the MX400 is wired, the MX620 is wireless. And the 620 has a special kind of scroll wheel which you can set to your own preference of friction. Prices are arround 30EUR and 42EUR.
My main concern is the weight of the cordless one being to high. I like to set my cursor speed to the maximum, and read somewhere that someone thought it was too heavy to control at high speed.

Does someone have experience with either one of these mice? Or an opinion on wired vs. wireless in general?

I'd go with the wireless, it's just less visible clutter on your desk, and more freedom to move.

Its a mouse. If you are using it with your desktop then get the cheapest and the most comfortable one.

My first mouse was a mx510. It was a good mouse for several years, then the G5 corded laser mouse came out. I got a G5 and have loved it. The primary click switch started to go bad after several months and went back to my 510 while I had a replacement one pending. Well the 510 started doing the same thing and was still under the 5 warranty so I did the replacement thing with that one too. So got a new G5 which has been good for over a year now and I have a brand new 518 sitting in the closet if I ever need it. I like the looks of the new G9 but I'm not sure how I would like the shape, I have become very accustomed to the long oval mouse shape. The G5 has Teflon feet which I really like that your potential 400 lacks.

I have always used corded mice, you plug them in and they work, there's no batteries to worry about, lag, or any wireless interference. People sometimes say that the cord restricts motion, and it can but I have a small binder clip and pull some excess cord and camp it to the end of my mousepad or lamp and I have no problems. Being in my dorm or bedroom my desk isn't immaculate in the first place so one cord isn't too bad. I have a wireless mouse for my laptop and it can be handy having some distance to work with but I find myself losing sometimes....

Well, I use my computer a lot every day. For pleasure and for my study. Which means sometimes 8+ hour days. So I want something good and ergonomic. I think it's the single most used 'instrument' you interact with during the day.
My current mouse lasted for almost 5 years, so it's worth to invest time and money in something that will be good and comfortable.

Holy shit 8+ hours a day? Your eyes must hate you.
