I got my VW for my 15th.
As soon as I got my license my parents said they are not buying a car for me, not even contributing towards it. I am better off for it I believe.
Parents who purchase cars for their children's birthdays are doing nothing but a big disservice to their future.

My parents bought a 1991 Dodge Colt for my brother and I when I was 16, it wouldn't go into reverse after a month, and had so many electrical gremlins that my parents decided it was unwise for my brother and I to drive it anywhere.
