interesting. i like his explanation of the differences between "-er" and "-a" and i back him for what he did. if what he said was true, that the student said it to him in the way that he did, then i stand by the teacher to say it back.

well, thats why you can be cool to black guys and not call then 'nigga' then they wont call you whitey, or cracker or whatever. the black guys that do that shit are just out to prove somthing, trying to justify their primitivness. but there are PLENTY of black guys that dont suck and that if you are cool to them, they are cool to you. i know way more cool black guys than i do stupid, racist ones.

i think by using the word nigga, blacks produce a large sense of separation from others races. the funny thing is, is that when someone of another race uses the word, that person is blamed for that separation and is labelled a racist.

I've had two black roommates at college so far, with plenty of people over most of the time, and you'd be surprised at how much their opinions on the matter differ. Some think it's ok to say lyrics from some song that has the word, while others are completely appalled by any use of the word. Then there's the laid back ones who encourage white people to say it.
On that note, for the sake of being pc, some insist on being called African American instead of black. Yet they continue to call me white. I just play the card.
He's not completely right on the issue with -er and -a, because like I said, the opinion on it differs from person to person among any group of black peeps. Yep, peeps.

Back on topic, I think he is totally justified in using the term. I think most black/african american people of our generation don't even know the roots of the word, they probably pick it up from song lyrics, and think of it as a word similar to the F word. I mean if they can call one and other the N word, why can't we call them the n word. As someone else said, black people call us whitey, or white trash, or whatever, and we are just supposed to take it?

On the other hand, I think that kid that reported it just wanted some attention; see the way he was showing off to the camera, the way he flatly denied saying the n word first (the way he said it, to me, strongly suggests that he isn't telling the whole truth), and the way.

Sorry if i have offended anyone; i am from Aust, and hence don't know very well the workings of American society, I don't know the terms used commonly, and I don't know how sensitive people are to the issue.

I usually don't post here but, this topic sparks my interest and so I must put my 2 cents in. I go to a intercity high school and I'm a senior there. The population of that school consists mostly of blacks. There is not a day that goes by that I don't here nigga. I generally don't think much of when I hear but now when I think about it makes me mad. You know most the black kids think they have be hard and tough. They look up to these rappers that make money on songs that deal with killin people, crak,and saying nigga. These are the people that make black people have bad name. People like Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks didn't fight for racial equality for young black kids to be the racist ones. The people that say nigga need to relize where that word came from. It was used by slave owners, now why would a black person used a word that slave owners used to make the slaves inferior. I'm one the kids black people think they can mess with me. I had a conflict with a black guy a year ago, he called me a craka. So, me being proud of who I am called him Nigga. Simply because it's the same thing he just said to me. I swear you would of thought I called his mother a whore. I can understand why black people don't want white people use the word nigga. I mean thats the word slave owners use.

They just don't care. What? This is completely different than how most black people I know use the word. To them it's more like "man," "dude," or even just "guy"....when they want to say 'fucking douchebag' or 'cockfucking goat-barfers' they use words like 'hater', 'swagger-jacka', 'biter', 'faggot' (i'm surprised at how much they use homophobic terms), 'bitch-nigga', 'punkass', and even 'clown'....that's just what I've gotten from listening to them.

Actually, my point is all that shit falls into one word for them. It's not just an insult.
