If the Minnesota-based Duesenberg Custom Coach has their way, the next Torpedo will be on the market by January 2007. The car is penned by California designer Jeff Teague. The car would use a Mercedes CL 500 as a chassis-donor and offer approximately 300 horsepower in a lightweight package. Duesenberg is also lining up a motorcycle to use the same twelve-cylinder engine that will power the Torpedo. Duesenberg Custom Coach owns the Duesenberg trademark for use on the car.

i already know that i meant does anyone ever heard of that name before ?
is it a big one ?
PAULIE_D
A couple more pics of the Torpedo Coupe:

A large-displacement motorcycle is also planned:

NorthPoint
From the first pics it looks like a reversible car, a Bentley Continental GT for those days when you're heading to the country club and a Lamborghini Gallardo when you're doing a little performance driving.

Not at all. Duesemberg went bankrupt somewhere around 1920, they're famous because their cars are super rare.

I think it's actually pretty cool looking. I love the front, but I'm undecided about the back. In the first post, second picture, I find it looks a bit weird, but it looks amazing in that very first pic...

That's like saying in 80 years that "McLaren is nothing special, it's famous because their cars are rare"...

...Duesenbergs fucking ruled... Hey! It's a Duesey!
idiot

Hey, Bugatti's back, and Maybach's back...why not Dusenberg?
moe89
AMAZING!, but it needs a bit more power. like the older Bugatti's thumbs_up.gif thumbs_up.gif thumbs_up.gif

Ignorant child! head.gif Duesenberg is famous for making some of the world's most advanced cars ever for it's time (and arguably todays as well). Duesenberg also set world standards no other company could really ever match. They are the Kings who forgot they had a crown.
moe89
i am saying that 300hp in something this big wont make it exactly fly or anything.
But realistically, i would not complain if i had this.

300bhp is alot, depending on the chassis

yes Duesenberg was once the RR phantom of it's era. The brothers that founded it went broke many many times but still managed to produce cars during bankruptcy.

The cars were built out of the best products money could buy, and most of Hollywoods A-list brought them. The founders also build a 55-liter V16 aircraft engine :O

Honestly it was an amazing company that had many backers, and produced some of the worlds most valuable and beautiful cars to date.

Anything based on a mercedes can't be light.

Considering this relatively, Duesenberg was the Maybach/Phantom/McLaren/Enzo/GT3 of the day.
PAULIE_D
I wonder how much it cost E.P. Industries to buy the rights to the Duesenberg name.
kbtitan
Looks like they chopped the nose off a Lambo and made it the rear biggrin.gif

This reminds me of that car from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with 6 wheels.
snakefood
this car is awesome! a bit bentley, some parts of maybach, chrysler!
Megadeus
Duesenberg didn't build cars per se. They sold the customer a rolling chassis, with the engine, grille and some front sheetmetal (I think). The customer was responsible to source a coachbuilder to actually construct the body and produce a finished vehicle.

no, no, they actually built the cars. (I am almost certain)
TrueSlideXL
Coachbuilding was considered only for the most elite cars, and was $$$$. Duesenberg's were largely known for not having any two cars alike because coachbuilding of their cars was so prevailent. The company did make the cars however, and a few coachbuilt cars were official.
