![]() ![]() From Jalopnik QUOTE Built on GM's Super Epsilon II platform, the new car named after the southern African antelope features a long, wind-swept profile, evolutionary bowtie-bedecked front fascia, and dramatic sculpted body coves, the new Impala might now be the best-looking four-door Chevy currently makes. Seriously.
While it's sadly again a front-wheel-drive car, underneath the strongly-pointed power-domed hood sit three engine choices — a four-banger in either 195 HP 2.5-liter regular or 182 HP 2.4-liter eAssist flavors and a 303 HP, 264 lb-ft o' torque 3.6-liter V6. |

I don't feel like the styling's very cohesive at all. The swoosh over the rear fender, the tricky d-pillar detailing, the puffed up Accord-esque front end and little Audi taillights...it just looks like a conglomeration of interesting details slapped on a large sedan.
Mechanically probably more compelling, though since Nissan just announced the new Altima 2.5 liter base engine gets 38 MPG highway, GM will have their work cut out for it on this and the Malibu. |

For a GM car this looks really good. Now to get rid of the "For a GM car.." stigma.

Just from a visual point of view, I think the wheelbase is too short for the size of the car, and the wheels. If the wheelbase was a bit longer, then I think it'd be easier on the eyes.
Reason for edit: added "Just from a visual point of view,"

I have to say, maybe my impression of it will change in person, but I think it works.
Yes it's a mashup of stolen details (I see a lot of Accord and Sonata) but it's not bland or offensive. I also even like the long overhangs . . . makes it look kinda classic. |

I quite like it, looks like it will bring some good competition to the Ford Taurus.

I think it looks good. The tail curve psuedo spoiler thing doesn't mesh with the curve over the rear wheels. The front looks a bit like the last Saab 9-5. But it's a full size car and they're all just camrys to me now.

for a GM car.. it's very decent. But overall.. to me it says "we're not pushing any boundaries.. we're just trying to do what everyone else is doing". the whole rear area is just too massive.

But overall.. to me it says "we're not pushing any boundaries.. we're just trying to do what everyone else is doing". Mid and large sized sedans is a conservative segment full of people seeking reliable, inoffensive transportation, feature content, comfort, and fuel economy. What do you expect? |

Im betting the fat ass (and I like me some junk in the trunk, yo) is so that there is way more trunk space for the golf clubs for the sort boring fuck that looks at this car and gets a hard-on for it. ....Or to fit 4 18"s back there, which is inevitably where most of these bodies designs end up after 5-10 years anyway.

Front drive still? ![]() It's GM and it's still ugly. Yuck. Why would you expect RWD? for a GM car.. it's very decent. But overall.. to me it says "we're not pushing any boundaries.. we're just trying to do what everyone else is doing". the whole rear area is just too massive. It's conservatively styled as it is appealing to those same type of people that buy Crown Vic's/Town Cars and Caprice's Mid and large sized sedans is a conservative segment full of people seeking reliable, inoffensive transportation, feature content, comfort, and fuel economy. What do you expect? Exactly. Agreed, that trunk is massive people will be able to fill it with shit like clubs, beach gear, etc. |

I take it all back.
I saw one in person yesterday and it's too narrow, too tall and the styling details do not get along well at all. Normally modern cars look like shit in pictures and not half bad in real life (Panamera comes to mind) but this is the opposite. |

I don't know what I was thinking when I first saw it. A year later the car Jalopnik's photos look awkward and fussy.
