So Dieselstation Car Of The Year is back because it gives me something to do over winter break (seriously).

So, here's how it's gonna work. We're going to be voting on various categories...each category will be voted on for ten days until it closes, and then we will take the winner from each category and pit them together for an overall vote. Unlike last year, we will be splitting up the trucks and SUVs from the cars, so we will have a separate overall Dieselstation Car of the Year and Dieselstation SUV/Truck of the Year. The winners from each category will go into three overall votes and from there we will crown our Dieselstation Vehicles of the Year (Truck, Sports, and non-Sports).

To be eligible, a car must've been either a new model or significantly updated for the 2007 model year, or something new for 2006 that we skipped last time around for whatever reason. A few vehicles have been combined with their mechanical "twins" to reduce clutter. To simplify matters, just like last year, the car of the year competition focuses only on models sold in the United States...I know, I know, there are a lot of people outside of the US here, but if we were to look worldwide we would have dozens more entries and it would be very confusing.

There are 58 cars broken down into 13 categories and 24 trucks and SUVs in 4 categories. The categories are as follows:

Car of the Year

Boy Racers (5)
Compacts (5)
Exotics (4)
Family Cars (6)
Luxury Coupes (4)
Luxury Sedans under $50k (4)
Luxury Sedans over $50k (4)
Non-Sports Convertibles (4)
Sports Convertibles (5)
Sports Coupes (3)
Superminis (4)
Track Toys (5)
Ultra-Exotics (5)

Truck of the Year

Full-Size Trucks and SUVs (4)
Lowend SUVs (7)
Midrange SUVs (7)
Luxury SUVs (6)

As each category gets posted for voting, it will be linked from this thread. Like last year, there will be honorable mention polls wherein every car and truck that was close to the winning vehicle will get a chance to redeem itself (close = having received a number of votes equal to or greater than 75% of the winning vehicle in that category). Depending on how the voting pans out, there may be only one of these polls for all eligible vehicles or two (one for cars and one for trucks).

I'm curious as to why if a vote is so close between two (or more) vehicles in a particular category there is tie-breaker vote to follow. IE - Z4/M coupe over Cayman by just 2 votes.

No, tie-breakers are only for proper ties (same number of votes). Cars that come in very close second (or even third, fourth, etc, if it happens that way) get their chance in the Honorable Mention poll(s).

Oh ok. I guess i just felt like if 2 of 3 vehicles had the overwhelming majority of votes and ended up being so close still there should be a tie-breaker (even if not a PERFECT tie). I get what you mean though...
