Dieselstation Car Forums _ Seriously Uncool _ Iran-Khodro Paykan

Posted by: PHiX Apr 30 2005, 07:32 PM

The Paykan. Only in Iran. I saw a brochure for it once when I was visting Iran. The safety highlights were... and I shit you not... "Seatbelts, four brakes, windshield wipers, side mirrors".... I was like, HAHA... Anyway, specs...

Engine Model : X1
Displacement : 1598 cm3
Number of cylinder : 4
Bore x Stroke : 87.3 x 66.7 mm
Compression ratio : 7.8
Fuel supply system : Injection MPFI
Maximum speed : 137 kph
Maximum power : 67 HP at 5000 rpm
Maximum torque : 104 Nm at 3750 rpm

SUSPENSION
Front : Macpherson Independent - coil spring
Rear : Leaf spring

Front brakes : Hydraulic disc
Rear brakes : Hydraulic drum

This garbage is coupled to a 4-spd gearbox. Weighs about 2100lbs. Rides on 13" wheels. Here's the interior specs from the catalogue...

Water temperature warning light/indicator
Heating/venting with fan and rheostat
Fuel low level warning light
Dipped beams warning light
Front brake pad wear warning light
Separate front seat with reclining backrest
Engine oil pressure warning light
Headrests on front seats
Radio cassette without CD player
Front grab handle
Battery charging light
Rear grab handle
Trip recorder
Tachometer

SAFETY
---------

Hydraulic disc front brakes
Hydraulic drum rear brakes
Front brake pad wear warning light
Child safety latch on rear doors
Dipping interior rear view mirror

I'm impressed, even hte paseo doesn't have front brake pad wear warning light. Didn't even know such a thing existed.

Wow, such luxury such as the 'FRONT GRAB HANDLE' and a Radio/Cassette and just incae we get confused it mentions the lack of a CD player. And the indicator lights... WOW! BTW, this car was being made with these exact specs up until mid-2004. Then Peugeot came in and started marketing decent cars in Iran. Now for some pics...

A-yup. The difference between a '67 Paykan and a '04 Paykan? I have no idea. Besides some 'smoother body panels'.

Posted by: dukenukem Apr 30 2005, 07:42 PM

i mean its like a time machine .... i mint car from the 60s available in 2004 !!! woot.gif

Posted by: PHiX Apr 30 2005, 07:46 PM

The very first pic is an '04 model. The rest are pre '00.

Posted by: Jordan Apr 30 2005, 09:24 PM

god dammit. those fuckers in iran... they just make a shitty car and sell it to their people for a lot but they HAVE to buy it cause if they dont they dont drive anywhere. they're so evil. DS_Evil.gif

Posted by: PAULIE_D Apr 30 2005, 09:37 PM

Looks like the type of car a suicide bomber would drive.

Posted by: PHiX Apr 30 2005, 09:47 PM

Oh, btw, I'm Iranian. biggrin.gif And when I went to Iran about 8 years ago I actually got into one. From what I can recall the ride was bumpy and the quality of the interior was horrible. Really, now, this is in the same league as the Lada.

Not really. That looks like any other generic Eastern Europeon and Middle Eastern self-created vehicle.

Posted by: Espen May 1 2005, 08:21 AM

If you squint, it looks like a 90s Rolls Royce biggrin.gif

Poor comparison though, as there is obviously a massive quality difference. The RR would not last a week in Teheran whistle.gif

Yeah, probably right considering the weight of the car. The power to weight ratio is like...well I dunno how to figure that out on a calculator but its pretty fucking awful angry.gif

/Edit

Oh,
"For every 31.3 pounds of weight on your vehicle, you have 1 horsepower."

How shitty.

We Used To Have A Lada Samara A 1989 And It Just Kept Going, It Only Had About 98,000kms Then We Upgraded To A Nissan Pulsar, The Lada's Are Far Stronger Than A Japanese Car!

how does a 1.6L motor with fuel injection make 67 horsepower?

i could see a non-turbo 1.6L diesel making 67 horsepower, in 1980.

Some cars have to be designed for extremely low grade fuels.

I think these engines are still flatheads too. But don't quote me.
