QUOTE
The Europa S is a derivative of the Lotus Type 111 Elise and Exige cars only in that they sport variations of the same bonded aluminum chassis, the Europa bears a separate Lotus model designation (Type 121) due, in part, to its longer chassis and completely new body type.

The mid-engined two seat coupe sports a 2.0 L turbocharged GM Ecotec engine producing 147 kW (197 hp/203 PS) at 5400 rpm. The torque 272 Nm (200 ftlbf) engine allows the car to reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in around 5.6 seconds, and 100 mph (161 km/h) in around 13.8 seconds. Maximum speed is 143 mph (230 km/h).

It's a Lotus, it's pretty, and it handles well. 'Nuff said...cool.

^Opel

It's hard. I LOVE Lotus, but this car is quite uncool. It doesn't look very good (way too busy and rides too high), pales in comparison to the rest of their lineup, and features a GM engine. Plus it's not even supposed to be that fantastic of a drive.

Haven't driven it myself, but neither have you. So I'm calling B/S on that. Everything I've read says it's still a sharp drive, but there isn't enough added comfort to justify its lack of focus compared to the Elise/Exige.

Boring... unsightly compared to the rest of the Lotus lineup, looks like it's worse to drive, and I didn't see anything pertaining to the cost, but I bet it's overpriced. Not cool, but it's still a Lotus and a track-car therefore not MJU.

QUOTE(edmunds.com)
The shame of it is that the Lotus side of the Europa, the chassis, remains sublime. The steering is precise enough to make most coupes feel sloppy by comparison, grip levels are such that no sane person will unstick it on a dry road, and the brakes are simply mighty. But it's no better in any of these regards than the most basic of Elises despite costing nearly half again as much. And it makes little sense as a Grand Touring car either: Cabin noise levels are too high and the gas tank too small to make covering serious distances much more than a chore.

All of which leaves me to conclude you should be glad the Europa is not on sale on the American side of the Atlantic. It means the U.S. can enjoy the wonderful, brilliant and proper Lotuses that remain true to their creator's vision without having your view of the marque polluted by the needless and compromised sideshow that is the Europa S. Truth is, it doesn't feel like a Lotus, but an underachieving imposter wearing Lotus badges. Which, of course, is exactly what it is.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Lotus chassis is up to snuff but the rest is not, nor is it worthwhile in concept. I stick with my uncool.

That Edmunds article says that the chassis is as good as an Elise. It's much roomier, though not more posh. Basically, it's an Exige-for-tall-people, not a grand tourer. That might not be what some buyers are looking for, but I'd hardly call that mediocre to drive.

The engine doesn't work with the car and the looks are funky. And have you sat in an Elise/Exige? Plenty of room for tall people! Just hard to get into...

The thing is that the Europa seems to offer an Elise-esque chassis with an inferior engine and styling for basically no gains in comfort. Therefore, it's pointless.

No idea about the handling but, it's still a Lotus. So it can't be that hard to drive. The styling's bad though.

Is it a horrid drive? Nope...but it is up to Lotus' high standards? Most reviews point to "no"...plus, it looks Proton-designed so it gets an "uncool" here.

What could I say what others didn't already say? It is a Lotus and should therefore be cool. Unfortunately the guys from Hethel messed this one up. This car may have good cornering abilities but this shouldn't be worth mentioning for a Lotus. In fact it is an ugly and slow 2-seater with a hefty price tag, some kind of wannabe-all-in-one-and-failed.

Verdict: uncool.
