Dieselstation Car Forums _ Seriously Uncool _ Toyota Paseo

Mark I Paseos

1.5L SOHC I4 12V FI
HP: 100bhp@6400rpm
TO: 91ft/lb@3200rpm

Curb Weight: 2070lbs

Smaller and less costly than a Celica, the front-drive Paseo sport coupe replaced the 2-door Corolla GT-S and SR5 in 1992. Paseo shared its wheelbase with the subcompact Tercel, but styling differed considerably. The 4-cylinder engine also came from the Tercel, but was boosted to 100 horsepower with the addition of dual camshafts. A 5-speed manual transmission was standard; 4-speed automatic optional. Paseos got a firmer suspension than Tercel, including a rear stabilizer bar and 14-inch tires (versus the Tercel's 13-inch rubber).

Up side is... 28/34mpg. So yay.

You're thinking of the Mitsubishi Pajaro, z0ne.

As for this car, sorry, totally uncool...after spotting a Corrado with a friend today, I said (paraphrasing Richard Hammond) "think of all the sporty 2-door coupes from the early '90s...Celica, Corrado, Integra, Paseo...now, which one of those do you want to drive?"

Well, duh. This is the most uncool car ever. I gotta take a picture of me in the backseat so you guys can get an idea that there literally is NO headroom. I'm about 5'8" and if I try to lean back my head will hit the rear window.

The Toyota even the fanboys don't like. thumbs_down.gif

Rip that useless back seat out. The weight savings will shave off at least 1/10th of a second off your 1/4 mile time. wink.gif

Yeah, right. Full acceleration is the most ridiculouis thing ever in this car. All it does is make a loud noise, in 2nd gear, redlining, and pushing 80km/h. rolleyes.gif

Wow, I can hardly believe that this car is UNANIMOUSLY MJU...I mean, I woulda figured that SOMEBODY would've given it an uncool by now.

Well... I suppose 2100lbs and the handling is pretty good for a FWD car. But, really, it's just... revolting.

It's really too bad this car was based on the Tercel. Would have been interesting had it been equipped with a respectable engine and firmer suspension.

As a side note, the last generation Paseo looked decent for it's time. The first-gen looked homely, as you can see from the pics that were posted earlier.

This unusually cool looking 1997 model shown here is stock with the exception of the wheels & tires and the front lip spoiler:

The suspension is pretty firm and that rear stab bar is pretty nifty. Not that much body roll in the corners, surprisingly.

No.. Just no.

I remember a magazine article where they took this Mk1 or 2 Paseo and turbocharged it. Made about 200bhp.

200 is weaksauce for a custom turbo j0bbie.

OMG, who voted cool? Or for that matter uncool? I was hoping to get 100% MJU but now you guys ruined it.

Uncool, it's looks like any everyday car you see. But it's not "Phix Owns One Uncool".
