Okay so actually - we now have two iphones.

So my best friend didn't have a phone yet, and with my photography biz going well I decided to get her an iPhone 3G as a late birthday present.

It took ages to wait for prepaid iPhones to arrive in stock, but due to unfortunate events we're not friends anymore, I decided to donate it to my mum instead.

We now have two identical black 16GB iPhones in the family ohdear.gif

Notice my crummy attempt at installing the screen protector on her phone.

It's also quite obvious that the phone closer to the camera is mine, the other one is mum's - still wasn't yet activated via iTunes yet.

The screen protector makes the screen less glossy and shiny.

Not sure how it is in the states, but here we have Vodafone, Telstra, Optus and Virgin all offering iPhones via contract or prepaid (i.e outright purchase of the phone). You can unlock the phone for $80, but because we were already using Optus sim cards, we didn't need to.

The cost for the 16GB iPhones prepaid is $849, both phones I bought were the black 16GB models.

I decided to get the SwitchEasy Rebel cases for us, one black and one clear. I think i'll nab the clear one - and mum can have the black one. I'll post pictures when they've arrived and installed.

I absolutely - positively LOVE this phone. It's the best frick'n toy i've bought myself in yonks.

It has a lot of strengths - like it's THE phone for displaying and showcasing images to friends and clients, and web browsing the net.

It has a lot of weaknesses - like an awful camera, no video recording, software unreliability - and your friends becoming jealous whenever they see you using it.

But at the end of the day I think it's all about whether or not the phones strengths fit your criteria and individual needs. And it does so very much for me!

The camera phone is the worst peice of crap i've ever used - but I've found myself using it a hell of a lot more during my day to day life. For capturing tid bit moments I'm still very happy with this phone. It's especially great for copying images to it (from recent shoots etc) to show clients.

Anyone notice something funny about one of the pics? smile.gif

I've finally warmed up to the iPhone, but I'd still never want one without a warranty. Hence, I'm waiting for its official launch in Dubai...which could be never.

I've played with other touch phone, which are supposed to be iPhone competitors, the ones I played with all feel clunky and have really poor and finicky interfaces...My iTouch (iPhone without the phone part) is really intuitive and easy to use.

It's not coming to anything... the reliable name in phone software is Windows Mobile. tongue.gif

Have you tried Samsung's Croix interface? I rather liked it, though the Armani phone was too slow to handle it. I've heard there are no such problems on other models.

In the USA what kind of phone would that be on? It's not a sarcastic question, I just have no idea.

Most of the high-end Nokias have them. The N-series, E-series, plus a few others here and there. It's also been around a while in its various iterations. My understanding about the US is that Nokias aren't very popular, because the nice ones aren't available on plans and such. They're sold unlocked, directly through Nokia, and all the crappy ones are sold through the various cell phone carriers.

You're right. I played with an unlocked N95 in an airport electronics store and loved it until I found out it was GSM and not supported by many carriers. Awesome phone and OS though, although not as much 3rd Party support as WM.

My impression has always been that there's a lot of 3rd party support for Symbian. I could be wrong though...
