got caught for going 80mph on the freeway. The 405 was wide open at 11pm and stupid me thought i could get home just a tiny bit faster.. but oh well.. got caught for speeding. i deserved it.

but that's not the weird part.

cop pulls me over, tells me to get out of the car, put my hands behind my head, and kneel down. I'm thinking.. "wtf? all for going 80mph?" so whatever, he pats me down, and sits me on the sidewalk. Then he gets my license and registration and blah blah blah..

but it doesn't stop there.

He then asks me if he can search my car. I was like.. um.. "NO?? not unless you tell me what's going on." Which i guess made him kinda mad cuz he starts to threaten me with a night in jail for whatever stupid reason. I decide fuck it.. i don't need the hassle.. so i tell him go ahead search. Not like i had anything to hide anyways.

So he searches, finds nothing, then he rolls up my windows, and notices i have a light tint of the front window. then he pops the hood.. at which point i say to myself.. "i'm fucked". He then tells his rookie cop to "come and take a look at this."

"notice how he doesn't have any CARB stickers for this part here? that's a violation"

Then miraculously, he closes my hood. writes me a ticket for speeding, and illegal intakes. WTF? no ticket for the HEADER that's all nice and shiny and begging to be written up? cool! just intakes! that's easy to fix. so i head home, and i check the violation code that he wrote down, and it's for exhaust?

HUH?

code 27150(a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

so i got a fix it ticket for a stock exhaust but no tickets for header or intake or downpipe. no ticket for the lack of first catalytic converter (my car has 2). lolol..

so what do i do now. do i just go in and get it written off for a stock exhaust? laugh.gif laugh.gif

but yeah.. don't speed kids. especially not 80mph on an almost empty freeway at 11pm.

It's cuz you stick out like a sore thumb in a modded Scion. Anyone in a stock-looking car wouldn't've been bothered (probably), although LA cops are jerks.

As for the exhaust, he probably just heard that it wasn't stock and wrote you up for it.

99% of the time...at least in winnipeg, if you challenge a cop who is being a dick (IE treating you like a member of the crypts) with the "on what grounds are you searching my car...and not untill I talk to my attourney" they will leave you be.

they have to account for the reason why they pulled you over and decided to perform an illegal search...and while a Scion doing 80MPH may be strange, its certainly not reason to search you.

But thats canada...perhaps Cali is different...

Seems to me that cops tend to get pissy when you question their authority and try to defend your rights. I've heard some nasty stories about cops trying to search people's property without a warrant...using threats and even using fines and tickets as retaliation...but perhaps that's not the norm.

it shouldnt be the norm...cops take too many liberties everywhere...if you have not commited a crime, a cop has no grounds to arrest or detain you, and is putting his job on the line by doing it...

By telling a cop that you object to an illegal search, you are forcing that cop to make a decision...if he decides to go ahead with the search...ask him what he is looking for...if he happens upon something else durring the search, it will not be admissable as evidence...

but if you give him permission to search your person and belongings, anything he finds can be used against you.

Thats just nuts,

I've been picked like that before... at 8:45am in the morning on the way to the magazine office in the Sydney CBD.

Cops came all the way, weaving through traffic to get to my car to check it out.

They pick on you you know!

What?! You guys can get tickets for no standard parts?! Thats harsh!

The last time I got pulled over it was because the cop liked Skylines and wanted to know more about it!

Cant you just start shouting "Rodney King!!! Rodney King!!!" if they get all agro with you? lol

Wow. There was no reason for him to do anything like that and I would have threatened to call my lawyer right away. I would even report him now. I have been pulled over for speeding tickets, a blown headlight and no front plate (im an easy target). I have never been asked to step out my car.

Diesel submitted to the search, he nolonger has a recourse...he could say "well the cop threatened to arrest me if I didnt submit" but then its your word against Johnny Law, and unless the cop has a history of ignoring civil liberties, your gonna loose.

They are unfortunately. I read a story, these cops completely tore apart this guys car and didn't find shit.. Like literally pulled out his seats, dash, etc and then towed his car. Wasn't a single thing he could do about it either. I believe the guy was from Cananda and they nailed him right as he crossed the American border.
