As I'm sure you know, the iPhone 5 (4S maybe) is set to be announced next week. Almost everyone is saying: A5 chip, 1 gb of ram, and full voice activation. No word on the design (I'm not thirilled with the design of the iPhone 4).

My brother is trying to convince me to upgrade my iPhone 3G to a Galaxy SII instead of getting an iPhone 5.

I worry that this will screw up all my calendar info, music, contacts and everything else like that.

Am I worrying about nothing, or will this be a pain? Will I like Android after four years of iOS (got an iPod touch in 2007). What about Android updates leaving some phones out? How durable are Samsung phones? I've beat the shit out of my iPhone 3G and aside from a shitty sleep button it still works.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd never buy either.

Android simply is not a great operating system, but it's almost worth it to escape Apple's gag and chains. Almost.

I'd say iPhone 5.

I've never had a problem with Apple like that . . . but maybe it's because I've never known "freedom."

Isn't it true though that many producers put their own skin on android devices, and you have to "root" them to have freedom, just like you have to "jailbreak" an iPhone"

The difference is that with Android, you generally don't get buttfucked for doing it. With Apple, you do. Official update? Kiss your modifications goodbye until they've figured out a way to re-jailbreak the phone. I could NOT deal with that.

I wanted an iPhone, but got the Galaxy S (not II i might ad), and it's been a brilliant phone.

I did speak to a guy that had been on iPhones since the release of the first one, and he just recently switched to the Galaxy S II, and he has absolutely switched sides and now properly says fuck Apple. He says the freedom he has with an Android phone is soooooo much greater than anything he's ever had with the iPhone. He says he dint even realize how badly Apple has people by the balls until he stepped away from Apple.
Not my first hand experience, but this is what he told me.

Samsung FTMFW!

Well, if the iPhone being released next week is just an upgraded iPhone 4 I might give the Galaxy SII a try. I guess I can always sell it next year if a completely new iPhone 5 comes out.

Does the Galaxy (or any other Android phone) do visual voicemail?

What about managing music and podcasts? Can I still do it through iTunes?

I'm kind of pumped that Sprint will probably get the iPhone 5. It will definitely make me dump my HTC Hero. That damn thing is so slow. My lovely wife got me a 32 gig Ipad 2 for my birthday/anniversary last week. I love that thing!

You can do visual voicemail through Google Voice, which is a brilliant system. I think doubletwist will sync your itunes music to an Android phone, that was about a year ago though so things may have changed since then.

unless new iPhone comes with a bigger screen, I see no reason to buy it.

Personally, I would get the Samsung. Samsung doesn't have -great- build quality, but the Galaxy SII has gotten absolutely incredible reviews. I would probably never get an iPhone personally. It's too bland for my taste.

I'm leaning toward the iPhone 5 now (virtually same specs as the Galaxy SII, but it'll work with all of my current soft/hardware), but new reports are saying that the iPhone coming out on Tuesday will be an iPhone 4 with upgraded internals. That would make this decision much much harder, since I think the current iPhone is a failure in terms of function following form.

Perhaps open your mind to trying things that aren't obsessed with being rooted, hacked, jammed, slammed, customized, programmed..... you get my point.

The day I become that boring is quite literally the day I will buy an iPhone.
