QUOTE
The new BMW M6 concept made its debut at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. It is based on the BMW E63/E64 6-Series, introduced in 2004. It shares the same 5.0 L V10 S85 engine and SMG III gearbox with the E60 M5, and produces 500 hp (373 kW) / 384 ft·lbf (521 nm).

BMW claims it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds (0-60 mph: 4.1 s [Road & Track [2/06]) and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). With the limiter removed, the top speed can reach 330 km/h (206 mph). [1]

The M6 has the same 'power button' as the M5 which modifies the throttle response. From ignition, the car delivers 399 hp (298 kW), but engaging the button allows the full 500 hp. It weighs 3770 lb (1710 kg) thanks to a carbon fibre reinforced plastic roof panel as well as thermoplastic front wings, aluminum doors and bonnet and compound boot lid.

The carbon fiber and other light materials are used in places like the bumpers and roof that are far from the centre of gravity and/or high up, so that they not only reduce the overall weight but improve the handling by reducing, respectively, the moment of inertia and the centre of mass height.

It is currently available as a coupe and a cabriolet. A lightweight CSL version of the M6 is expected to be released in the near future. The 2007 Cabriolet is expected to have a 0-60 time in about 4.6 seconds (Road and Track, September 2006). It can be visually distinguished from the 630i, 645Ci and 650i by its deeper front valance with air intakes, more contoured side sills, an additional rear valance with diffuser and the absence of front fog lights.

I hate this car. It is a big, heavy, showy, rap video car. It's over priced, over weight, has too many electronics and yet still fails to inspire any emotion in me whatsoever except a disdain of for people who think it is a drivers car. It's not, it is a car for people who want to be seen in an expensive car. That being said, people ARE impressed by it, and it is technically a pretty good car. So I am willing to bump it up to just Uncool.
M6 Uncool bordering on MJU
M5 Ice cold

Really don't understand what happened to that last one, oh well.

It's fast, it looks awesome, and it handles like it's half the size. Not to mention, that at the end of the day, it's just as good at being a cruiser as it is a sports car. Frozen.

I have utter disdain for the M5, but the M6...I gotta give a cool on looks alone. In person it just exudes aggression. Too bad it doesn't have the 6-speed like the sedan, though.

It looks cool, but the electronics failed the whole car. TG convinces me about the electronics.

I say uncool. It looks, performs, and sounds badass (especially in black hardtop version). But, it's still HUGE and overflowing with technology and nasty nasty BMW image. A CSL version with manual would be pretty damn cool though.

I'd take the SMG over it personally, but there it is.

Also, I don't really understand the obsession with "lightweight" cars here. A car doesn't have to weigh .2 nanograms for it to be fun.

ggggggggg way away from .2 nanograms. In fact it is a damn pig.

2nd of all, the weight that comes with modern cars has pretty much ruined the pure driving experience.

I would say cool, but in bloomfield hills the only poeple who drive them are rich women who carry lap dogs. So, no thanks.

Gets a solid cool from me. Definitely not an "uncool" car in my books but not good enough for "ice cold" status.

Right, but there are still cars that cater to that audience. There's the lightweight Porsche, Ferrari, and Lambo variants; Lotuses; Miata; S2000; etc for people that want that. The M6 never tried to be any of that. It's performance coupe that can play the role of both comfortable cruiser and performance car. I personally think that bashing it for that is like saying De Nero is a bad actor because he's a terrible tennis player. Just my two cents, but I don't really think weight is that big a deal.

It's not the weight in isolation that makes it uncool. Plenty of super cool cars are weighty (DB9 for example). What really uncools it for me is the people who drive it, the fact that it's a modern day BMW, and the fact that I can go just as fast and be just as comfortable in a different car in which I don't have to fuss around with goofy nobs and buttons.

It's not necessary to fuss around with knobs or buttons like is exaggerated on Top Gear. You can just get in and drive it like any other car. However, if you like, there are settings you can mess around with; just like every other car in this class. I'll give it a cool, it'd be OK to have one of these in my stable.

TopGear? TopGear just put it on television. Everywhere I've read about iDrive, people think it's terrible. It's brought up frequently as a downside of the M6 in comparisons.

I didn't mind iDrive at all. I didn't see it as something revoultionary, nor did I see it as an added annoyance. I've used it on one of the first 730is, on an early 530i, and more recently on a 525i and a new 330i coupe. If anything, I actually thought the MMI interface in the Audi A8 was more annoying.

Would have been Ice Cold if it looked better from the rear.

I want that engine, so I'd get an M5 instead.
