The Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V was the sport compact version of the Nissan Sentra; it was the highest trim level of the Sentra SE. Beginning production in 2002, it had garnered a reputation for its impressive performance within the segment. Its engine was the 2.5 L QRD25DE unit originally created for the Nissan Altima. The engine produced 175 hp at 6000 rpm and 180 ft·lbf of torque at 4000 rpm. This power was enough to propel the car to 60 mph from standstill in 7 seconds.

The car came standard with a 6-speed manual transmission with helical Torsen limited slip differential, and 17-inch wheels with performance tires. Perhaps as impressive as the car's quickness was its handling, which was the result of aggressive factory-tuning of the car's suspension and the addition of low-profile tires, which fortunately did not severely harshen the car's smoothness. Along with a standard race-inspired sporty interior, other optional features at the time included a 300-watt 9-speaker audio system (with a 8-inch subwoofer in the trunk) and a power sunroof. In all, it is a rare car that is still relatively unknown to many, giving it the subsequent sleeper image to those who are familiar with the car. For example, the car appears in the video game Need for Speed Underground and Need for Speed: Underground 2.

Initially, for 2002 and 2003, the SE-R Spec V (along with the SE-R) was given an aggressive front fascia (borrowed from the Skyline GT-R) with side still extensions and rear trunk-mounted spoiler. For the 2004 and 2005 model years, cosmetic changes were made to make the Spec V look like regular Sentras from the front, although it still retained its side-still extensions, rear spoiler, and 17-inch wheels (albeit different ones from 2002 and 2003 models). The 2004 model year also featured a new style of taillight which is somewhat inspired by the Skyline GT-R's quadruple taillights. Other cosmetics added in 2004 that were akin to the Skyline GT-R are the six-spoked wheels, the SE-R gear shift handle, and the availability of Sapphire Blue.

From wikipedia.

Here is what I have to say. Decent powerfor a low cost. LSD is a very nice feature. I am going to call it cool because my bias is getting the best of me.

The older ones are way cooler looking than the newer/current versions, I'll give it an overall yet relatively unenthusiastic cool though for its tranny, decent figures, and decent looks for the price.

Totally and absolutely uncool.

Uncool.

The facelifted ones are uncool, the older ones are cool.

Wrong Wheel Drive. :/

FWD.
Not fast.
Ugly.
Uncool.

MJU. That motor has been recalled by Nissan

Posted by: Mr b00st Nov 8 2006, 09:10 PM

cool.

it's a lot of fun for not a lot of money. it's got the right equipment.

there are some downsides. the QR25DE is sort of a boring grandma car motor, designed for strong low end torque but as a result it has not much top end - a 6200rpm redline with a 6000rpm power peak means a lot of annoying smacking against the rev limiter. The transmission is notchy or sticky or whatever you want to call it. It's kind of ugly and cheap.

But it's still a fun car with a low price.

i agree the pre facelift ones are better.

can't say i'm too excited about the new one. the sentra 2.0S lost a 6 way comparison in the newest car and driver - last place for a brand new model is bad news. Mind you, the winner was the Rabbit.

Duh.

How is it a cool car if it just does what it's supposed to? Wouldn't a cool car be one that goes above and beyond?

Posted by: infinity935 Nov 8 2006, 10:18 PM

I think this car would fit whatever choice would fit between cool and uncool, if there was one. Its basically just...average.

Posted by: tune Nov 9 2006, 05:14 AM

Yawnworthy.

Posted by: bing5500 Nov 9 2006, 06:47 AM

I can't get enthusiastic about it so I voted uncool...

If any of its Skyline GT-R references in this quote is true, then it makes the car seriously uncool.

The only cool thing about it I can really come up with is that it is a car that only enthusiasts will drive. Youll never see someone who isnt inot cars driving a Spec V. The ride is pretty harsh, there is a lot of road noise, a lot of torque steer etc.

Uncool

I've was about to disagree then I realized you mentioned the Spec V in particular. Though a harsh ride, road noise, and torque steer, kind of add to it's uncoolness for me. It just says the car wasn't particularly well sorted.

lol, i think your attempt at defending the car really backfired. XD

I think the Spec V is pretty badass, given its price point. It makes for a great autocross car out of the box, and it's cheaper than even a Miata or WRX. For basically Corolla money you've got something that works on a track and I think that's pretty cool.

Posted by: DakianDelomast Nov 9 2006, 05:29 PM

See and clark thinks its cool, hence its firm not coolness.

Uncool, the face lifted models ruined the car for me. "Hey you know whats a good idea...what if we could make it look like a regular Sentra? Ultimate sleeper, no?" It looked good the way it was then they changed it. Fuck you Nissan

Posted by: BlackJack Nov 10 2006, 02:55 PM

Uncool all the way. It was much better before the changes.

You should check out the interior change from the old one to my 05.

Looks the same. It's also exactly the same as the Middle Eastern market Nissan Sunny...which handles like shit, so if the Sentra sits on the same chassis, I hope to God that they fixed up the suspension like no other.

Super uncool. Unlike he Civic Si this one cannot dominate at the tracks !!!!!!!

Posted by: moethepaki Nov 13 2006, 09:09 AM

I'm prettiest.

Posted by: UserDrew Nov 14 2006, 12:45 AM

I like them. I like this whole generation of Sentras. It's TS that Nissan had to turn them super ugly again.

I voted cool becuase I felt that it was above the average between uncool and cool. I essentially rounded up.

Posted by: moethepaki Nov 14 2006, 03:58 AM

I actually like the new Sentra. *hides in a sand dune*

Posted by: Mr b00st Nov 18 2006, 08:10 PM

yeah it's alright, i just wish they were giving the SE-R a real engine this time.

Posted by: Avalon Nov 26 2006, 06:33 PM

This car can't get any more uncool.
