This plan has actually been cancelled. Oh well. :-/

Well, the hidden "if" statement for my getting a Genesis includes "Hyundai Dual Clutch" (currently in the Veloster, I believe). I will not ever have a manual in my daily driver. This is a fact.

That being said, I had to stop myself from splurging on a $4000 Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 5-speed the other night.

I don't know if this has been asked, and I know we all bust your balls about the transmission choice you have so I will let that go, but I am wondering, do you know how to drive stick? Something like drive stick well enough to say do a 6-3 rev matching downshift, while getting off a highway...?

I do know how and have done so a handful of times, but for what you're talking about it would definitely take me a couple days of practice to eliminate my rust. I absolutely couldn't do it first time out at all cleanly on prompt, as it's been at least two years since I've driven stick. But yeah, I know how. I learned in a weekend about three and a half years ago in my uncle's E46 M3.

Placed my 4S pre-order today.

I forgot I have my phone on a business account with Rogers, so I just had to log into my account and press the "upgrade hardware" button.

I weighed the options, in the end it came down to the 4S being as fast as the Galaxy SII, but didn't require me losing all my iOS investments (apps) and having to learn a new OS.

Now to wait for the 14th.

This is simply not true. iOS is hardware accelerated and written in a powerful variant of C, a ridiculously fast language. Android has no hardware acceleration and has a UI written in Java, which is shit for doing graphics transformations (read: UI animations), especially on a mobile processor.

Hardware wise they are pretty much the same on paper.

iPhone has a smaller screen, but better resolution. Ram, storage, battery life (non LTE) processor speeds are all pretty much identical. This is the first I'm hearing about Android having UI problems.

I wish there was a way I could try out an Android phone for a while without having to shell out several hundreds of dollars, or sign a two year contract. I tried to find a Nexus or Nexus S after my 3G broke, but they were all still in the $200-300 range.

I thought most carriers did a thing where you could return your phone within 2-weeks to replace it? I have t-mobile, and I'm 90% sure I had that option when I upgraded.

Resolution doesn't always mean that the screen is better. I've heard that the screen on the Galaxy S II is one of the best, if not the best, on any smartphone. And the Galaxy S II has almost double the ram that the 4S has (or at least that's the rumor).

^ Makes sense, the Fisher Price version of the iPhone should be kid-proof.

As for those of us who don't ever drop our smartphones (no, seriously, never have), I think I'll be fine.

But if not, there's always this: http://store.carbonfibergear.com/element-c...r-iphone-4-case

yep. It's a shitty design.

Back glass is only @20 some off dollars to replace at an Apple store though.

I will be buying a bumper post-haste.

Same here, I dropped my iPhone 4 once, it was on the armrest part of my recliner and it fell onto a carpeted floor. Otherwise, I have never dropped it.

My 3G got dropped every day practically.

My 4S is getting a bumper case to protect against this . . . but I refuse to get one of those stupid huge cases. What is the point of owning the thinnest smartphone in the world if you put it in some gigantic rubber sock?

Insert eye-fucking-roll here. People like you are the reason smartphone insurance is so expensive.

PS- the bumper doesn't work for SHIT.

The bumper is there so that you don't cover up your antenna I'm pretty sure. If I have to get a case (or I just get bored with the look of the phone) I go for one of these. Some of them can be really tacky, but there are some gems on that site. Not only that, but they last FOREVER. I've had one on my iTouch for 4 years and it still is on there perfectly. The edges aren't even peeling up.

It's a matter of being careful. I know that if I drop this thing it could break, so I won't drop it.

I am a relatively coordinated and thoughtful person, I just normally am really absent minded.

-----------------------------------

As for the Nexus (and the Razr, also announced today), I'm so tempted by them. The specs seem to be pretty drool-worthy . . . but I still think it would be a massive PITA to switch from iOS to Android. New cables, new holders for the car, new MP3 management software. And then you have people like Razor saying that Android isn't worth the hype . . .

I would love to talk to someone who has switched.

-----------------------------------

Loving the 4S. I got it in the mail yesterday and I have been slowly getting back into the habit of actually using my phone. I had all but stopped because my 3G was sooooooo slow.

Siri is interesting. It sometimes has trouble with what must be my Canadian accent (Donny claimed that it was super strong once), but it's fun to use. I kinda feel bad when I do things manually . . . as if Siri is a real person who feels neglected when I don't use her.

Now if only I can get it to call itself "Mr. Butlertron," and end every sentence with " . . . Wesley."
