Introduced in 2005 as a 2006 model, the Mazda 5 represented the evolution of the not-available-in-the-states Mazda Premacy, which bowed in 1999. Unique from other family haulers thanks to its compact dimensions, available manual transmission, frugal 4-cylinder engine, and sporty driving character, the 5 was a big gamble in the typically "less is not more" North American market, but it's met with quite a bit of praise on this continent. Complaints have centered on less-than-stellar power from its 2.3 liter engine, currently rated at 153 HP and 148 ft.-lbs. of torque. Still, the Mazda 5 is a breath of fresh air in the greater-than-five seats market, which has been for years the realm of big stodgy vans and, more recently, lumbering SUVs. So, is the Mazda 5 cool or not?

This car isn't cool. The commercial we had in North America with the business men talking about how the driver of a Mazda5 is "the man" drives me nuts to say the least and it drives me nuts becuase there is no way in hell anyone who drives one of these is "the man". This car is seriously uncool.
