Maybe we can give it another go?

This is from my latest photo-taking stint while visiting a friend in Denver. From a dog park (trying to pan at dusk, so stuff's blurry, but I like the action):

You need a better monitor for photoshopping cause I'm sure you wouldn't have left this if you saw it. There are areas in the photo that are whiter than the rest of the background.

I viewed it on my Apple cinema display in the office and noticed that. Dragged it over to my second monitor which is a shitty Acer lcd and everything blended fine.

Open photoshop, click on he color picker and use the dropper to select the background directly in the middle. Then use the dropper on the upper right corner. The majority of the bg is RGB 252/252/252 where the upper right corner is properly white at 255/255/255

This is the areas the look for

Besides that, I love the picture and your other stuff is great too.

Posted by: D.Freeman Sep 21 2007, 05:12 AM

lol, thanks Cyclone. It's funny you should mention about monitors, as the one im at now (at work) is a shitty 17" job, but my home one is the Dell 2407WFP-HC, which shows that mistake clearly - I just never got round to fixing it lol!
I did this photo before I got the Dell, so that's why I never saw it well.

Posted by: POAH Sep 21 2007, 11:50 AM

I onlynotice it when I tilt the monitor back

Posted by: Bracken Sep 21 2007, 02:27 PM

Dan,

You've got some talent in the Macro side of things, mate. Love the work with the plants.

What macro were u using? It's kinda got a Tilt-Lens effect, aswell.

Bracken, thanks for the comment. The lens I use is a Nikon 60mm f/2.8. I love that lens, it can give some amazing detail!

In this thread, we can post only "non-automotive" pics?

I don't remember how we insert a image in a post....Somebody can remember me please?

sorry... blush.gif

Posted by: D.Freeman Sep 23 2007, 01:42 AM

Find the address of the image (right click --> properties) and copy it.
Click on the 'Insert Image' icon just above where you enter text, and paste in the image addy.
Voila smile.gif

The rule over at Finalgear is one photo per day, and it can be of anything. We could use the same here I suppose, depends what everyone thinks.

My firtst attempt at flash photography.

I already had a 430 EX flash and this week I added a SB-24 and a SB28 wich I bought second hand. Yesterday I did a test setup with my remote triggers. (only 2, next week I will get 2 extra) My car was not clean but I couldnt wait and wanted to get started with this. But it was a bit more difficult than expected and I really have to practice from now on. This is something I really want to learn!

C and C is welcome ofcourse, I really hope you guys can help me a bit to improve my flash photography wink.gif

This is a very old picture, taken more than 20 years ago on analog film and scanned on my cheapo Canon scanner. It shows a castle at the south of my hometown in the night. IIRC I used exposure times of 3 minutes then. No photoshopping done to the pic.

After I save up for the rims my next purchase is most likely gonna be a camera.

Yeah I`m trying to keep it clean, no bodykits or anything like that is getting on my car tongue.gif. The only thing that could stand a chance is a lip kit. I`m saving up for rims now, so we`ll see how that turns out smile.gif. Yes the car is manual, I have a cold air intake and Greddy Ti-C cat-back exhaust on it, which sounds awesome, very deep noise, not a killerbee.

Here`s the pic of the exhaust that I`ve got.

Posted by: Ecomark Jan 8 2008, 08:17 PM

it was shot in downtown detroit. I cannot find the news story but that Ford Explorer was highjacked and brought to that abandoned building. From there, the carjackers set it ablaze. Glad that wasn't my vehicle! haha Funny part was that there was a bum sitting right behind me.

Heres my random shot. shot across a very quiet highway in the middle of the night, by myself(really not a good idea if you have any idea of what goes on in South Africa)...
roughly a 90 second exposure on a Nikon D70s. didnt have a proper cable release, so i had to set the camera to bulb and hold my finger on the shuttter release for those 90 seconds.
luckily i have a REALLY sturdy manfrotto tripod.

great shots in this thread so far guys....!

Its not from BHPV, its B Hague - a company based in Nottingham England who specialize in camera & video supports. I suspect $>£ & transport fees might make it too expensive compared to automotive rigs?

Thanks guys. Yeah, the moon was killer out here last night so I had to go out and snap some shots. Here is another I took on the way back after I took the bridge shot that I was able to frame the moon in as well. The light on the close side of the bank was unavoidable so I just did the best I could with it.

Had a golden trip around the South Island of New Zealand for 12 days over new years, travelling in a rather slow diesel range rover, but it was well kitted out with decent tyres and suspension. Managed to get very stuck a few times, and accessed some good areas for a bit of fly fishing, most images are shot with the 5D and a 50mm f1.4, enjoy.

beautiful film shots!!

bit of a test shot from me today:

This is a test shot with the now discontinued 50mm f1.0L lens. This image is shot wide open at 1.0 to show the natural vignetting on a full frame sensor (Canon 5D).

Luckily, as you know, I love vignetting on images but I doubt I would use this too much at 1.0 as the DOF is seriously narrow up close.

well, I was messing around with my new white umbrella... so i was taking pictures of her to see what the results were... she was just sitting down.. and laying around.. the pictures where ok.. but it didn't have the POP... so i was like.. ok.. I see what the results.. not too bad... and thinking after I am done here i can delete them all.. since nothing really good was happening... I was about to call it a night... turned off the camera and I was about to take down my light setup... but then she heard something... and got into that "GUARD" stance. I quickly turned the camera on and BAN! I had my winner shot.

Lesson?

This house is right behind my grandparents property. My dad says that this house has looked pretty much exactly the same way since he was a kid (early 70s). My grandpa knows the people who own it and he said that they rent it for like $25/mo, and it's always had someone living in it for as long as I can remember until just recently. It's amazing that someone could live in a house like this. Oh and if you can believe it, it even has electricity run to it.

you probably wont answer this (but its worth a try) how did you get the clear backround? im guessing even with a clear tank w/ water would still be hard to get that pure white backround.. is this the power of photoshop?

again, great shot!

Posted by: D.Freeman Jun 12 2008, 11:44 PM

Actually no lol! Although I admit photoshop was used to tidy it up a bit, and remove some bubbles that I felt distracted from the shot. The white background was created by hanging a white cloth behind the fishtank, and overexposing it with a flash. Pretty simple setup, just took a lot of patience to get the shot i wanted!

Quick bump, just did this TEST photo on the drive:

I would very much appreciate C+C on the LIGHTING, please ignore the composition etc as it was on my cramped drive.

Also, please ignore the weird thing with the car in the background, I had to paste the rear exposure in as I only have two strobes and I didnt use a tripod sad.gif

Our 16 month old girl, I have no experience in portrait photography, but I decided to rebuild our living room into a DIY photostudio smile.gif

I've not had the time to shoot much of anything this year because of school, except for site visits for some of the papers I'm doing. It sucks, but it's given me a chance to try my hand at some architecture photography with available light.

I've also just recieved a Mamiya 645 Pro in the last week which has sparked me into life again. Absolutely loving it. Even with 400 speed film developed in Rodinal the grain looks superb on this sized negative.
