So I recently went to LA to do a shoot for Lexus and man it was hard work i drove in from Vegas and basically had 2 hours sleep, we got up at 4.45am and drove to the location, the Lexus truck was late and we only had one car so me and the video people were sharing one car, which was kind of hard. luckily the truck turned up with the other cars. So Lexus wanted a griity, water element to the pics. At first i thought the location was great then after 3 cars it was limiting! I had to get 6 pics of each car. this was the hardest and fastest i have ever worked. My hands were black by the end of the day! and then i drove back to Vegas finally at 10pm getting back at 1am after drinking lots of red bull and 5 hour energy!!

Anyway here are the pics

This is the one right at the end they said this car is the most important! i thought argh why didnt you tell me this earlier!! i shot this one in about 15 mins because our permit was running out

I was shooting a a lot of these in direct sunlight which was hard managing the reflections....but overall im happy with the pics!

I'm actually surprised you go to use that type of location in regards to security. I've tried a few times to access areas close to the Port of Seattle, but risk > background. I've been warned a few times to leave the area immediately. Looking good!

Thanks! Yeah when we arrived it was sunrise and it was beautiful, I wish we couild have shot then. There was a real nice haze over the back of the industrial area and some parts the dust was kicking up and the sun was beaming through it. But no cars!

Thanks! For the elevated green shot, I used the canon 17-40L and for everything apart from number 5 I used the 100mm f2. I want to replace that now. Number 5 was with the 200mm f2.8L all taken with the 5D mkII
Thanks btw!

Yeah security were all over us all the time, ppl stopping by seeing what was going on etc. But Lexus had paid the port for use of the location from 9-5 so it was all good.
Thanks Mackey, appreciate it dude

hmmmm.

I don't really feel like these photos fit the image of "Lexus". When I think Lexus, I think luxury / elegant / clean styling / high end, not gritty / industrial / artsy.

Overall, these images seem darker than what I'd imagine a "Lexus" shoot to look like.

...but that's just my opinion.

Congrats on the job. Hopefully the client is happy, since after all, that's all that matters.

Well they're all modified Lexus's and they picked the location. So they said they wanted gritty with a water element......
I understand what your saying about luxury but these aren't regular lexus's they're all modded. I just shot it where they told me to and when they said gritty that's what I tried to do, I don't see how I can make a dock look luxurious

Good job, number 2 has to be my favourite of the lot.

What kind of lighting did you use on the outdoor shots (e.g. 3, 4 and 5)?

Also wondering this... I saw you were looking into Alien Bee's. Did you have them for this shoot or did you do this with speedlites?

for this one i was using a 580exII and 2 Vivitars, unfortunately the Vivitars werent cutting it outside so i had to photoshop several layers of lit areas with the 580exII. It was funny because it was really bright but i managed to get a shutter speed of 1/200 so i was happy. thanks too!

Very nice work man! Especially considering the time constraints you were working with!
2 is bloody brilliant! All of them are great, but that's my favourite. I love the flat red paint!
Good work!

thanks a lot guys for the comments!

you know the one thing that sucked about number 5, i was just getting into position and there was a seagull perched on that little white thing you can see to the right of the car, it would have made the shot, but just as i was about to press the shutter it flew off!!

Yeah sean you would think that, thing is they hired a re-touching company to edit my pics, and oh man.........its as if they paid someone to make them worse, im glad i edited these ones. Im going to see about e mailing my versions to Lexus
