so...the new Top Gear this month has an article about the up and coming Z4 Coupe...and they are predicting that its going to be quite a piece of work...and will compete directly against the Cayman S and the...er...um...SLK.

so what do you think? all 3 cars will retail within about 10K of eachother, with the Cayman being the most modestly priced, followed by the (predicted price) Z4 Coupe with the MB coming in last.

so if it were your dollars on the line...which would you have in your garage (for this thread im kinda ignorring the fact that the SLK is a CC, and calling it a 2 seat performance coupe)

Porsche Cayman S:
294BHP from a mid mounted H6 N/A engine
0-60 in about 5.4 seconds
Top speed 275km/h

BMW Z4 based M coupe
350BHP from a front mounted N/A V8
0-60 in about 5 seconds
Top speed 250km/h (limmited)

Mercedes Benz SLK55 AMG
360BHP from a front mounted Supercharged V8
0-60 in about 4.9 seconds
Top speed 250km/h (limmited)

the Cayman will always handle better, the Merc will always out accelerate, and the BMW will do both moderatly well with enough snobbery for all.

I've already shown my contempt many times on this forum for the Cayman, so i'm obviously not picking that. I don't like convertibles, so no SLK, which leaves me with the Z4.

Styling-wise I like the Z4 Coupe, but I'm sure the Cayman will be a better car to drive.

I think the Z4 looks the best, although the front is kind of gross. Whichever drives better, I guess.

1) Cayman. For the flat six wail, the most attractive body (the Z4 coupe' is close) and the mid-engine handling balance you just can't beat.

2) Z4 Coupe. Esp. with the S52 Straight 6 motor. God what a sexy note that six has. Phwoar. And so nice looking.

3) SLK55 AMG more of a boulavardier but believe me i wouldn't turn one down. Just, if i'm getting a sports car it will rev and it will have a clutch pedal.

Personally I'm completely split down the middle in terms of styling between the Z4 coupe and the Cayman S...

the Porsche is more beautiful, but the BMW has more of that classic look....like a Triumph Spitfire coupe.

but I'm a Porsche man through and through...Cayamn S wins!

Cayman S

The Beemer is way too ugly and the Merc is too heavy and only has 2 pedals.

i actually prefer the Z4 coupe out of these. i hate Boxsters, and putting a hardtop on one doesn't change that. and SLKs are for secretaries

Cayman - can't deny a fun car that looks pretty good.

I would pick the Z4 Coupe, but I don't like how the front end is still... ugly. It looks tacked onto the rest of the car.

The Benz is a joke. But I'll admit I kind of like the front end styling. The hardtop on the Z4 ruins its appeal and the Cayman will always look awkward to me.

I choose bus pass.

But since you people won't accept that as an answer I'll pick the Cayman. I'm going on looks only, by the way.

Cayman for sure, but the Z4 M Coupe is a close choice because I love the S54 and I love its styling (for the most part). The thing I hate about the BMW is its interior, though...I don't want a slab for a dash thank you very much.

The SLK is just a lump of car with a big engine compared to these two sports cars. It's a muscle car with an automatic and I hate it hate it hate it. Fuck you Mercedes, fuck you mercilessly! angry.gif

Nicely put. For my choice I'd have to go with the Cayman, though. It's about as good looking as the other two, it'd be the better performer besides a little behind the MB in acceleration and it's as luxurious.

Cayman all the way. Emotional response is all that matters with cars like this, and to me, the Cayman is the very definition of sex on wheels.

Practicaly I would pick the Cayman, but if I owned one... I would be wanting it to be a 911, which it never will be... for that reason I pick the Z4.

That Slush box SLK is only for women.
