Dieselstation Car Forums _ Photography _ Inspiration

Posted by: //deanphoto Sep 16 2008, 07:06 AM

Afternoon all.

I spend most nights at work just browsing the web (work in IT, I'm an internet up-time checker whistle.gif ) and looking for inspiration. We all have are own hero's, and so I thought it might be a cool idea to get a list going of your all time fav car photog's websites. Hopefully, we'll all see someone's work we've never seen before

So, here are a few of mine

Lee Brimble (Top Gear etc) - http://www.leebrimble.co.uk/

Easton Chang - http://eastonchang.com/

Wynn Ruji - http://ruji.net/

You still need photography for CGI. You have to shoot the background plate. CGI is just the next step in the evolution of photography. it is no different than when Photoshop first came out. If you want to survive the change, you are going to be forced to adapt.

I don't think any company has an "official photographer." You'll notice that different photographers will have work not only from one car to another but sometimes even the same campaign/catalog will have more than one photographer's work in there. There's another photographer I have bookmarked on my work computer (at home now) that also does a ton of work for Audi and Olaf Hauschulz also does some stuff for them. Basically once you're top-tier you do work for everyone. Although I have been wondering who did that Maxima rig shot going over the suspension bridge for a long time so thanks for pointing this guy out smile.gif

If you all don't already, you all should look into subscribing to Lurzers archive or Communication Arts. They are more or less magazines that showcase some of the most creative advertising from around the world. Almost every agency I've ever been to subscribes and because of this, photographers and rep agencies advertise in them. It is how I found out about the majority of the photographers I consider to be my inspiration.

Evening everyone,

I came accross this site earlier: http://www.motorsportphotographers.com/

It's basically a site linking to automotive photographers portfolios, seems like a great idea and you'll be glad to hear that there is a large proportion of Diesel Station users on there smile.gif

Posted by: DaveAdams Dec 16 2009, 01:16 PM

Hello All!

Just wanted to introduce myself as the owner of the site that Dean posted above - honest, not related to him in any way and I haven't paid him to post the link!

I saw this forum appear in the server logs and thought I'd come and say hello. I've just read through the previous 4 pages of this thread and have added a number of sites to my 'to-add' list, as there is some fantastic work listed, most of which I'd not come across through simply searching google.

As Dean said, there appears to be a number of people on this forum whose sites I've already added, or are scheduled to be posted on motorsportphotographers in the next month or so. If any of you are not listed and would like to be added, drop me a line - you may already be queued up as I'm trying to get a reasonable number of posts pre-planned before Christmas.

Thanks once again and I look forward to seeing more of your work (and more of those links).

Dave

Not his entire portfolio... he has 4 CGI shots & the rest are photography.

RECOM Germany is one of the best in the business, everything that comes out of that place is fucking insane. You could probably doodle a car in MS Paint and RECOM could turn it into a billboard.

Just as an FYI almost NOBODY in the business retouches their own stuff, that's why I'm so interested in Retouching houses... but for some reason nobody else wanted to play along in my PP Inspiration thread tongue.gif

Something I've been thinking about for some time now too.

And FYI, the PP inspiration thread is legend.

You'd be amazed at how many submissions I get sent from photographers whose work is great, but whose website is just plain awful. It seems a lot of photographers don't understand that to best to showcase their work, they need a half decent website.

Posted by: Solid Apr 4 2010, 01:35 PM

Ooops. I was in a bit of a hurry when i posted that link... Peter Gunnars is a good photografer, yes.

But I of course ment Per Hammarsj, photografer of the swedish magazin Automobil:

One from Greg, which I was on about above:

Love it!

Posted by: brasher Jun 9 2010, 01:59 AM

In Aussieland they used the same series of shots but didn't use that one! AMAZING!

Posted by: Seethegrim Jun 9 2010, 02:13 AM

Sheesh, talk about tracking shot skills! He's got a talent for tracking shots, or he got lucky with that shot. Lets be honest. We have all gotten a pretty epic tracking shot at some stage which was more luck than skill. When you're shooting at 1/20 while tracking, its about the numbers...

Posted by: kelsonmassif Jun 16 2010, 02:36 PM

Wow Greg Pajo's work is truly inspiring smile.gif

I just opened the latest TopCar that I have a few shoots in & this one is in our one too. But I think that the other shots used in the article are even more 'wow'. They this perfect mix of 'lazy' (can't think of another way to describe that style) editorial & technical perfection of his commercial work. Such an inspiration in terms of how to shoot a mindblowing editorial, without compromising quality.
