I don't remember there being a book that was so damn hard for me to put down. Like the 31 hour non-stop trip Alexander Roy musters from NY to LA via BMW M5, I've taken every single spare moment in these last two days to finish this book. He goes on to tell stories of his Gumball races as founder of Team Polizei, and his eventual world record breaking trip from LA to NY. Some mind numbing awesome stuff.

If you care the least bit about cars, this is the book for you. Shit, if you don't care about cars at all (then why the hell are you here?), go read this book.

I've seen a couple things about this on various podcasts and on news sites. The guy's insane but brilliant. In one piece of footage, he was doing 120 in zero-visibility conditions in the rain. I guess that's what it takes to beat the record. I'm surprised an M5 holds it, though. Now I wait until someone drives a Zonda F across the country. That'd be awesome.

There's a reason an M5 holds it and not a Zonda. A Zonda would be a terrible cross-country machine. My weapon of choice would probably be the RS4. That said, I really wanna read this book.

That's brilliant... an RS4. I feel like a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, an Aston Martin Vanquish S, an Audi RS4, a Nissan GT-R, heck, even a Lancer Evo X would all be adequate for making that run.

No razor. You're forgetting that they also have several hundred pounds of equipment, food, 3 people and an extra fuel cell on board. Those 2 door cars you mention are not suitable by any means.

And it'd have to be something that flies under the radar. The E39 M5 looks very much like a 530i or 525i, it's a great choice.

Really? From the footage I saw, he still had plenty of small stickers on the windshield and hood but the full exterior was never shown. It's true though, the cops they picked up on the scanner said they were looking for a "Dark blue BMW sedan".

What did he say, and how can you be sure it was the real Roy?
