I'm considering a Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L lens and was wondering if anyone else has it and if so how do you like it? I'm thinking of starting to do sports photography (I really want to do golf) and thought it may be a good lens to do it with.

thoughts?

Awesome thanks! Do you shot mostly automotive? Also, do you mind telling me where you purchased it from? I saw one on adorama (i think) for $550 and that was the cheapest I've seen so far.

got it new from B&H. yea i almost exclusively shoot automotive topics. $550 would be pretty damn cheap imo. there was a guy on facebook selling one for $600 shipped a couple days ago, i didn't see it till it i already had bought the new one...

i like this lens a lot zac, i will say that for some things it's a bit better. compression and/or isolating the vehicle from a background annoyance works well. however, i find myself using the 135 f/2 L more. that focal length just suits me better. i still like it and i'm glad i got it but in hindsight there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two and i think the 135 is a hair better all around.

here's one i took with the 200: http://jpmcgphotography.smugmug.com/Cars/P...1&k=HwNKWQW

anything in that area showing 200mm on the image info was with the 200 f/2.8 smile.gif

I had this lens for the a while. I found I wasn't using it that much. It's nice for the odd car shot but I was using my 100mm much more. When shooting handheld too with lights and no tripod my shots were say 1 in 6 were sharp. This was when I first started though so may be user error there. It has been rumored they're making a 200mm f2. 8 macro is. Now that would be interesting. But I sold my 200mm and am now. About to get the 70-200 mkii
