Ok so lets say that you have a rich uncle or auntie who kicks the bucket and leaves you with $50,000 USD burning a hole in your pocket. What do you buy? Now this is a completely open ended question. The answer can be anywhere between going to the junkyard and buying 50000 dollars worth of parts and building the car yourself to buying one car that is worth 50 grand.

Since this is a Dakian Style question I'm going to ask that you be as detailed as possible. While I don't expect price quotes on individual parts, we all know that a full racing suspension isn't going to cost you 200 dollars so give price estimates on assorted parts.

My answers is of course going to be pretty obvious so once again I'm going to hold off my responce to see if this thread nosedives or not. Now note the money is USD so if you're a canadian or aussie (or norwegian) I encourage you to run the conversion and take it from there.

(note this thread was inspired by Redline and his multiple 25000$ car hypothesis)

Hmmmm... $50,000 could get me a TVR Tamora....or it could get me an RHD EVO 5...more debating will be required.

Sorry I should have added the car MUST be realistic. No wacky importations that you could never pull off in real life.

I'd buy a yellow 03 wrx. At this point it would have to be used, so figure I'd get one with really low milage and stuff figure about $21,000. From there it would be:

HKS Carbon-Ti Exhaust - $950
Full Coilover system from whereever - $1200
OZ Superleggra Rims w/ tires - $1500
Blitz SUS Cold Air Intake - $295
Blitz FMIC - $1,250
Blitz Blow Off Valve - $324
VF34 Turbo Upgrade - $1,100
Aqua Header - $1,400
Blitz SBC i-D Boost Controller - $600
STI Short Shifter - $290
Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel - $400
ACT Clutch - $540
Fluidyne High-Performance Aluminum Radiator - $689
Forged Connecting Rods - $400
Turbo XS ECU - $1,050
STI Fuel Injectors - $500
Sway and strut bars - $900
Brembo Gran Tourismo Brake Kit - $3000
Assorted Gauges - $200
Kaminari Body Kit - $1000
Kaminari Reverse CF Cowl Hood - $900
Kaminari Race Wing - $450

I think i covered everything.

I like blackires pick. I think with the roads and winters here I could have so much fun. I'm not quite sure what they go for new. But the mods you listed sound like it'd be one sick car. I'd be more than happy with a new stock one aswell.

For $50k I wouldn't mind a Boxster S, but that seems like not a whole lot of car for that much money. I'll think of something better soon.

a new 04 will run you about $25k. An STI will cost $30k. The reason I wouldn't want a new one is because I prefer the look of the bug eye headlights.

As for performance, you'll be looking at about an 11 second car.

Since $50,000 is too low for any of the TVR's I want or a Viper, I'd take a nice BMW M3 and sup it up. smile.gif

Volvo S60 R

~$40K.

Get the best used GTI / Golf I could find for the remaining $10K to use as the errand car.

I'd go with Pirelli PZero Nero for replacement tires... great traction, good mileage, and useful all-season

as much as I love the R's (I believe our family is about to get a V70R!!!) that wouldn't be my choice...

I'd start with a 1992 NSX (3.0L, manual). They run about 25 grand. I'd buy proper shoes for it (some 18" five spokers) and a set of big brakes... that'd probably run me six grand, but i'll need it. (31k now)

enlarge the engine to the 3.2L capacity of later NSX's (or if possible buy a 3.2L engine from a junker NSX) for i'm guessing another 6k all told (37k). Adjustable racing suspension, probably 4k tops. (41k) I'd replace the normal seats with some nice looking 5-point Recaros (maybe 1.5k for both, so 42.5k now.) With the remaining 7,500 dollars I"d fit a Comptech supercharger and intercooler setup. I'd shoot for 400 horsepower, easy I think, and 350 lb-ft.

That would be fun.

Another cool idea:

1988 BMW E30 M3 body with a shot engine- 8k tops. Get an E46 M3 engine from a junker- probably 5k. (13k now). 18" lightweight alloys, wicked brakes, strengthened driveline parts, blah blah I'd never come close to fifty grand. I'd try though- it needs a supercharger!

I would get a 2004 RSX widebody concept, that would be around 25k. I would spend the rest of performance mods and a few visual mods. (sorry its not that specific)
