You can pick up a used 06 CLS500 for around $35k. The CC Sport base starts at $26,790 and the "Luxury" starts at $31,990. So if you take the Luxury, and you equip it like a fairly basic CLS (Leather, Nav, Premium Sound) your at $36,255... and you only get half as many cylinders and 100 less hp. Thats a lot of money to pay for a FWD 4-cylinder. Of course, the overall ownership (per year, and throughout the car's life) is going to be substantially higher on the Mercedes (insurance, fuel, repairs!).

The list of awards that the 2.0T has earned disagrees with you.

And that's after searching for about fifteen minutes...I know there are tons of awards lurking out there for this engine, its predecessor (the 1.8T) and all the cars that both of these engines get implemented in.

...wasn't trying to be a smartass? You have to admit it's pretty rare for something in the automotive world to receive as much praise as the 2.0T has. You're still entitled to your opinion but I still have a completely valid counterpoint. No need to be an asshole about it...

I saw one in the flesh yesterday...looks very awkward, and more importantly, very un-VW-ish IMO.

It's like VW is being pulled in two distinct directions, one toward the Sirocco (sp?) and the other toward the Eos.

This screams Eos sedan to me.

You always get a whole lot more shopping used than shopping new. Has nothing to do with the CC specifically. Heck, you can get a three-year-old G35 for about the price of a Civic Si...does that mean the Civic Si is overpriced?

Just want to point out that the 2.0 isn't the only engine option if memory serves correct. I believe you can get it with the 3.2 .:R32 engine which if the 2.0t is jerky then you may like the larger displacement. At any rate I am curious what the poster said about the jerkiness compares this to....meaning the CLS??????? I hope not. It's not a fair comparison by any means. K, that's enough rambling. I just normally equate jerkiness to bad driving.

The car is great to ride in and drive. It has a great premium feel as well. I love the details in the interior, especially the way the seats are covered. I have one problem with it though. The tail-lights are hideous.

Yes you can get the 3.2 VR6, but that starts at a rather hefty $38,000 USD. I'm not saying the CC is a bad car per say, but I do think VW has priced this car out of the market (although its segment is fairly undefined). In my opinion, the 2.0T is fine for the Golf/Jetta, but its too unrefined for the CC. It sounds very 4-cylinder-ish, and turbo-4s just aren't as smooth as a N/A 6-cylinder. I actually rode in another Passat with the VR6 and that engine is much much better, very smooth and well fitted for the top-of-the-range Passat.

The interior of the CC is very nice, however I don't like the gearshift design. They should have changed that part out with something a little nicer looking for that model specifically.

I can understand your view. I however see the economic benefit from it as well. Maybe I am biased, but I think the 2.0t is a very well round smooth and decently powered engine that matches well for form and general comfort compared to lets say the Altima 4-banger which is in the same playing field. I think the CC is an excellent bargain. Also The Passat you rode/drove most likely was the V6 not the VR6. I think the B4 was the only one up until the CC to get the VR6.

No Tifun, all B6 passats get the VR6 (all 3.6 liters in the US, I think they offer the 3.2 and 3.6 in europe).
