I was wondering if any of you guys know of anymore funny/cool lines that the more "redneck/bogen" people tend to use.

This is not a V8 versus non V8 thread war, I just think some of the lines are quite funny and I LOVE using them in real life when I muck around with the journalists.

Here's my two favorite lines:

"NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!"

"THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MAN AND A BOY IS 4 CYLINDERS"

Personally I think they're hilarious laugh.gif especially when you say it with a REALLL aussie voice! laugh.gif

We shot a V8 the other day, and we just couldn't stop acting all redneck/bogan-like all day biggrin.gif

p.s a "bogan is kinda like an aussie redneck"

Even if you say it regularly wouldn't that be a 'REALLL aussie voice'? Are the bogan's voices more authentic or what?

I know what you mean Eaton. I have a few friends who are massive V8 nuts and always use the "There is no replacement for displacement" argument. I've given up trying to talk at least some sense into them in regards to that somewhat single minded and rather narrow mindset, but to no avail.

Something I told a import when they wanted to race me
"You are not worth my gas"

well, the way I see it is that there is Replacement for displacement... it is called superchargers, turbos, nitrous, weight reduction, sticky tires, and all those performance moods you can think of. But oh wait... you can do that to the big old V8s as well.... and you would get more in return as well.... smile.gif firedevil.gif

I wouldn't argue that. I just remember I was out at a track day once, there was a new VE HSV Maloo ute out there and he was ranting and raving about the power and torque the car was putting out. He went up against a standard RS4 and lost by about 3 seconds. His excuse was "Oh the RS4 has a bigger engine" when it was clearly smaller. That said, there are a number of factors that have to be accommodated for, such as:
  • How well the driver knew the track
  • The RS4 is AWD
  • Driver experience

But as I see it, the capacity and amount of cylinders of an engine doesn't give people the right to say "my car is better than yours". It might be an Australian thing though, it's more prominent here where people think that V8's are the be all and end all of cars. Bear in mind this is just what I've experienced on track and street, and it's quite common; where you are might be a different story.

There is a replacement for displacement... it's called volumetric efficiency.

Volumetric efficiency is the percentage of the displacement that actually gets filled. Say a 5 liter motor that only draws 4.95 liters has an efficency of 99%. That's just an example I think typical numbers are closer to 80%. It has nothing to do with HP/liter or some other nonsense measurement.

Well nevertheless, adding forced induction to an internal combustion engine will bring it closer to that 100% mark. In the end, horsepower and torque are related to the amount of fuel and air entering an engine. There are three ways to increase the amount of fuel and air entering an engine: 1) Increase the displacement, 2) force a greater volume of air into the engine by compressing it, or 3) increase the engine speed (RPMs).

Power adders can push the VE over 100%.
Increasing engine speed only works until you hit the brick wall of the motor's physical limitations.
